“Great hotel break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2013

We stayed here a couple of weeks ago with friends and were really impressed. We had a fabulous big room with fantastic views to Lake Windermere, 2 double beds and lots of space. The hotel was lovely with big log fires, traditional fittings, warm and cosy. The food was excellent and beautifully presented although the choice was limited, possibly because we were on a Travelzoo deal. However, the extras in the way of canapes and chocolates along with the delicious homemade breads made up for this. The staff were very friendly, helpful and courteous. Some of the rooms looked quite small from the floor plan so I guess if you are given one of those you may not be as happy as we were!

Room Tip: Rooms with the bay windows at the front which overlook the countryside and the Lake are the nicest.

Stayed at Merewood for the weekend a couple of weeks ago and would highly recommend the place. Nice room, great food, superb breakfast, and the staff were excellent. Loved the bar - and the good selection of malt whiskies.

We went for a long weekend with 4 family members. We all enjoyed ourselves and the staff are all very professional. From the lovely Hungarian couple, Flower and Kevin( cannot remember their Hungarian names)James who got some information for us, Danny, also young man from Leicester, the other young ladies as well as the the kitchen staff. The breakfast is fantastic and the evening meal superb. We have been before and the standard remains exceptional.
The views from hotel amazing and we had a fantastic sunset.
Lorna the Manager has a lovely manner and made us all feel very welcome. She runs a great hotel and together with all her staff this is a fantastic hotel.

Room Tip: Book Lake room for the views.

We stayed at this hotel for the first time, the atmosphere was warm, friendly and relaxed which meant that we immediatley felt at home. We were staying there with our two young children who were the only children there.

The staff could not do enough for us, they catered for the boys brilliantly well (as many hotels like this just don't) it made it a pleasure.

The food here is superb and the setting is outstanding - we will go back.

We went with another couple on a Travelzoo deal last week for 2 nights. For a small amount extra our friends were upgraded to room 5 which was wonderful with 2 double beds a settee and a huge bay window looking towards the lake. After seeing that our room 6 was a bit of a let down. Having said that it was absolutely fine with a huge bed, clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly and unusually all British.
A 3 course meal was included on our first night. The food was very good but the choice was limited. It was nice that when we sat bin the bar before our meal that we were given lovely canapés and after the meal we were presented with chocolates. The meal was well presented and served with fabulous small homemade breads.
Breakfast was equally as good and cooked to order. We enjoyed our stay and was also lucky with the weather.

Room Tip: Rooms 2, 5,9 and 11 seemed to be the best from the floor plan. They were at the front some with bay...

We stayed here on 26/11/2013, we purchased a voucher and stayed with 2 other couples, the staff were very friendly and service was very good, good location but the portion size for our evening meal was very small, we are not sure if this was because we were staying on a voucher. Our breakfast was very good, overall the hotel experience was good but not great. We also found the water pressure from our shower was very week?

Room Tip: Choose a front room

Sometimes when you by a voucher offer you need to be aware that you may get the worst room in the hotel, as I'm sure we did. Granted it was the last room available when we booked, but I think we should have been made aware that it was on the top floor, with a view of the car park only and there was no pressure in the shower, so it took ages to wash shampoo out of my hair, annoying, as this offer wasn't cheap in any case. The room is number 21, the walls are also really thin, so you can hear what's going on in the next room. The bed was also uncomfortable. On the plus it was clean, nice cotton sheets of high standard, feather pillows we requested, nice fluffy towels. The staff were very pleasant and service generally was good. The food here is good quality. I did bring up my complaints with the staff on check out and it was obviously a problem they knew about with the shower as I was told it was about to be changed. We were still charged the £20 supplement as we varied from the offer, I think under the circumstances it would have been a nice gesture not to charge us this.
I brought this up on our check out & was told

Room Tip: Don't let them put you on the very top floor! Avoid room 21. I'm sure other rooms are much n...
