We had a wonderful stay which lived up to all the expectations from having consulted tripadvisor beforehand! Ken and Cindy were both lovely and we both felt really well looked-after and welcome. Breakfasts were delicious and the choice on offer was great. Rooms were cleaned brilliantly and we liked the 'teddy on the bed' touch!

Room Tip: Room 5 on the top floor was great

I totally endorse all those excellent reviews.
Lovely welcome with a tray of tea and biscuits, helpful tourist information if required and lots of little extras to make us feel welcome, including nice toiletries, towelling bath robe and sweeties in the room. Lovely!
The breakfast was superb.
Highly recommended for good value high spec guest house accommodation.

The Denehurst is a 'home from home' experience. We've returned on numerous occasions and love this guest house. The rooms and breakfast are great and nothing is too much trouble with advice offered on anything form walks, what to see or where to dine. If your visiting the Lakes go here. Situated between Windermere and Bowness both a short walk.
We'll be back next year.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great.

Just returned today from a three night stay and we are already planning next years stay. We where met like old friends by Ken and Cindy and felt right at home. There is nothing bad to say about Denehurst, the rooms where very clean and would give any five star hotel a run for their money. We are from Newcastle and soon found out that Ken and Cindy were from the north east so we had lots to talk about. Staying at Denehurst has spoilt us for any other B&B.

Room Tip: all rooms excellent

A five star B&B!
We have been visiting the Lakes for 37 years, often three or four times a year, and have stayed in a great many B&B's. We found the Denehurst approximately five years ago and have never been anywhere else since.
We have just spent another four days there which were absolutely faultless. We could not ask for anymore. Ken and Cindy are the perfect hosts who always go the extra mile to make our stay special.
We would always recommend the Denehurst and are going back shortly.

This was a return trip to Denehurst as we had been very impressed on our last visit. However, we were disappointed this time. The breakfast remains very good but the general atmosphere seems to have changed. The owners seemed less relaxed than before and appeared to be struggling to maintain standards - hoovering outside the room in the afternoon when we were trying to relax. Also, Ken, although a charming man, does tend to spend a great deal of time socialising with guests at the expense of attending to the practical needs of others, e.g in the breakfast room or when guests are trying to pay on leaving.

Our room was just as nice as before - lovely and tastefully decorated, but cuts have obviously been made - no individual bottles of water this time, a small thing but made such a difference last time.

B&Bs in The Lakes are highly competitive as there are so many to choose from. Sadly, because the feel-good factor has diminished, Denehurst has now slipped down our list of choices. :(

Denehurst, Owner at Denehurst Guest House, responded to this review, August 11, 2011
When you get a less than good review on trip advisor, we would be lying if we said that it doesn’t affect us, especially, when we work tirelessly to make every effort for our guests to enjoy their stay. This includes maintaining very high standards, so to suggest that these standards have dropped we think is very unfair. If anything our own expectation has risen and we are very proud of our 4 star rating together with our Silver Award, issued to us by Visit Britain.

Part of maintaining those standards of course includes our strict housekeeping routine which includes hoovering. Our housekeeping normally lasts until around 12 – 12.30pm depending on rooms coming in etc. So apologies that this disturbed your relaxation around this time but it has to be done.
“Socialising” with guests is a large part of what we do here at Denehurst it’s a one of the best parts of the job. Some guests require our attention more than others in regards to walks or things to do etc. This does not come at the expense of dining room duties but may require guests to wait their turn if they are wanting to check out early, this will only be a matter of minutes. Most people understand and respect this.

All of our rooms are tastefully decorated and we do give great attention to detail. This includes little extras such as bottled water. Recently we have introduced large bottles of bottled water instead of 2 smaller ones. We find this more practical. The water is not rationed and if this was not adequate, you only have to ask for extra supplies, which of course also includes any other items you run short of in your room such as tea or coffee etc so “ cut backs” have not been made here or in any other department.
Obviously we are very disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay with us this time around we can assure you that we really enjoy what we do and this is reflected in the relationships we make with guests who come back and visit us time and time again.
A “ Basic” bed & breakfast we are not. A basic bed & breakfast does not offer you complimentary tea and coffee on arrival, help with your luggage, a generous and varied breakfast choice, towelling robes and other extras in your rooms, help with choosing and booking tables in restaurants aswell as helping when required to plan peoples days out should they like us to ... we could go on. It’s called going the extra mile.
A good quality, friendly, home from home guest house we are...... Bacic we are NOT.
We will console ourselves by focussing on the 80 plus good revues we have on trip advisor and all the nice reviews posted on our own website. We do open our door to the world but, you can’t please all of the people all of the time whatever you do.

I cannot find a single criticism about this house! To start with the owners Ken & Cindy are absolutely wonderful people! They are very knowledgeable about the area, they have great passion in their B&B which shows so very much & their sense of humour is fantastic. Their house is beautiful, spotlessly clean & in a fantastic location of directly between Windermere & Bowness, both a very enjoyable 10 min walk maximum to either.

Our room was No 6 on the top floor & it was lovely, nothing bad to say, it was a nice size, nicely decorated & spotlessly clean & when I say clean I mean CLEAN!

The breakfast was wonderful & even one morning when we had forgotten to write down our breakfast requests, we still had the usual cumbrian breakfast & Ken & Cindy didn't even tut us for forgetting. They really were so wonderful & friendly & made you feel so welcome in their home.

Each morning after breakfast Ken gave us details for walks which he had drawn up himself, better walks then those you would find in any tourist information & they were very detailed, we never got lost & thanks to him, we really saw all the best bits of the Lakes in 3 days! They also have folders detailing local restaurants that they themselves recommend to eat in & the reasons why, with sample menus enclosed. A fantastic idea for first timers to the Lakes, which we were. Both Ken & Cindy could not have been more helpful & always with a smile on their faces.

I sincerely recommend this guest house to all, you could not not love it there. We didn't want to come home! Its the best place I have ever stayed 4* hotels included in that! If you book a stay here, you could never come away disappointed!

Other plus points - Parking not an issue, quiet location, character features around the house, wonderful selection for breakfast - Toast, Cereals, Croissants, Yoghurts, Raisin Bread, Fruit, Full Breakfasts, all rooms en-suite... the list is endless!
