“Nice stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2009

Stayed at Cambridge House with my husband and son for a weekend, we found Cambridge House to be friendly, clean and warm.
It had a fantastic location, within easy reach of all of the local attractions and all walks, eg Orrest Head, Helvelyn, Helm Cragg and many others are all within 20 minutes of the guest house.
As my family all have a large appetite, this was fulfilled with the great breakfast we were served up.
My family took the advantage of using the free Leisure facilities that were on offer to us, this was based at Parklands Country Club, this was only about a mile away and provided free parking.
Would definately stay here again in the future.

Usually stay in hotels, travel 70 -100 night a year. Struggling to find last minute so wasn't sure what to expect, pleasantly surprised. As far as B&B's go Cambridge house was very clean, warm and well presented. Bathroom in room 3 seemed recently modernised, free Wifi worked well, owner helpful and no difficult rules or reg's as mentioned in one review. I certainly woulldn't be happy if someone had curry in my room the night before but no problem bringing other foods etc. litle hassle.

Can't go wrong at £60 via Laterooms, have to be very picky to fault this place when comparing to other B&B's. No hesitation in coming back.

Great location, town 30 second stroll with wide choice of restuarants, bakery, coffe shops etc within 2-5 mins stroll. Lake Windermere 20 min walk away or 5 min by regular bus. Bowness a mile down the road. Got a parking permit off the owners so no problems. I would think this is going to be a problem for all B&B's in the area (hence score of 4 for location otherwise 5). Railway station 5 min stroll. Avoid Indian, pretty average compared to standards of Rusholme, Sparkhill, East end and Bradford.

we stayed for 2 nights at cambridge house and cannot fault it, i have stayed in a few bnb's over the years and this one is probably the best,
the room was more than big enough for the two of us, we had tv/dvd player and cd player in the room with a good selection of cds and videos as well as books to use while we were there,
debbie is very friendly and the whole place is spotless, the breakfast kept us going for the day,
its in a good location and walking distance from the lake with shops and restaurants nearby
we would definately stay there again

We are regular visitors to the Lake District and we use Windermere and Bowness as our base. We have stayed in many B and B's some good some not so good. Cambridge House has to be one of the most friendliest B and B's we have ever stayed in. We planned on staying three nights but extended it to four, mainly because the weather was so fab for this time of year! Debbie is an excellent hostess and will go out of her way to make sure your stay is enjoyable. The room we stayed in was very clean and had everything we needed. The breakfasts were fab! My husband filled his plate every morning! They really do set you up for the day especially if you are walkers like us. It was great value for money, and as a base excellent! As it states on the website the rooms are small, but for us this was fine. We would definately go back and would recommend it to our friends.

Small but functional and clean room. Owners Debbie and Dave very helpful (I left the room key at the guest house and they went out of their way to help). Decent enough breakfast. All in all very good value (we had a deal at 50£ a night for B+B).

I have got to say that i am really surprised by some of the reviews...
This was the 6th time we stayed at Cambridge House, and as usual, Debs and Dave were fantastic host.
The guest house is ideally situated, right in the centre of Windermere, and only a few minutes away from Bowness.
The room are always extremely clean, and the breakfast is to die for...Not made with cheap ingredients like in other few places i could name...
We come to the Lakes at least twice a year and because of the great value we always use Cambridge house.
We have laready booked our stay for xmas.....
If you fancy a very good value guest house, with nice host and located centrally, then Cambridge house is pefect for you...

  • Disliked — nothing to dislike....

The guest house is centrally located in Windermere and easily accessible by car. Unfortunately parking is an issue and a permit is required to park on-street within sight of the building. Due to no permit being available until the morning we had to leave the car a few streets away and sadly during the evening the car was damaged. Our room was large, comfortable and clean with an ensuite (shower not bath). The room had ample storage and a TV/DVD player (as a note for anyone who gets snowed in reception was poor and received only the first four terrestrial channels). Breakfasts were made to order and to an excellent standard, a great start for the day ahead. The guest house is situated in picturesque surroundings only a short open top bus ride from Bowness (the main lake side). The proprietors seemed friendly, but the overzealous use of rules and regulations detracted from our enjoyment of the facilities. We would recommend the area to first time visitors of the Lakes, but the guest house is probably suited to those who are regulars and have travelled by public transport.

Unfortunately we have to have rules and regualtions. we are only a small business and we genuinely have had people eating curry in bed, drinking red wine and spilling all on the cream bedding. we do try and be flexibe, we do not do rules for rules sake, we provide glasses and corkscrews so people can have a drink in the room, but eating pizza, curry chinese etc in or on the bed is not acceptable, it makes the place smell and has damaged bedding, carpets etc.

We do not want to detract from your enjoyment, but we must protect the property and its contents from the inconsiderate minority so that the considerate majority can enjoy their stay.

we are genuinely sorry if the rules offend you, its not the intention, please do not think that we think everybody is the same we certainly do not, we have mainly fantastic people, and we have met some truly charming and charasmatic people - but we have also experienced the other end of the spectrum and we have to protect against them.

Thank you
