The Glenburn Hotel & Restaurant
Ranked #14 of 20 Hotels in Windermere

Reviewed January 5, 2010

An ideal base in Windermere to explore the delights of the Lake District and surounding areas.
What a warm welcome from Jackie & Peter Baister not forgetting their friendly staff on the return back to the hotel after an enjoyable day out in the beautiful scenic countryside.
The food was to die for and we can't wait to return.

6 of us met up at the Glenburn for my friends 50th weekend celebrations & a trip that should take under 2 hours took over 3 but a cheery face young girl showed us to our large room (king size & a single bed in) well equiped & very clean & up in the God's with the other 4 from our party, this suits me as I snore like a Bull & could wake the village never mind the guests & it's the rooms we chose.Down in the bar theres plenty of comfy seating & a stand full of leaflet with to do ideas, also Jackie & Peter were very helpful here also advising us on eateries in Windermere & Bowness (both 10 min's walk away max) & walks & places worth doing. The dinner menu had a good choice & I must say was plentiful & very nice indeed, after dinner a wander just down the road to the Social club to ease off a few calories, give this place a go it was very friendly & cheap as well as a trip back to the 70's with it's hammer planished copper top tables, it's 5p fruit machine, Orange walls & Red carpets, I expected someone from Ashes to Ashes with a tan leather suit jacket & a handle bar moustache to wander in at any moment. Back at the Hotel we drank till midnight & had some music on, then off to bed.
Breakfast next morning was a good array indeed with every type of cereal, grapefruit, fruit cocktail, fresh fruit, full english or a variation of your choice, every way of cooking an egg, toast, jugs of fresh orange, marmalades, jams, honey & so on & all piping hot along with tea & coffee. After the walking, shopping tourist bit all day & a piping hot shower & lovely fluffy white towels it's off to the indian Jackie recommends & very good it was to, back to repeat fridays nightcap & music, seems this time someone took umbridge to a little noise & complaining in the morning, even though we were in bed by 11:45 & we couldn't hear the music, remember this is a hotel with people there to holiday, celebrate or enjoy themselves so your bound to get some noise,so if you want silence & calm serenity I suggest you get a tent in the wood, if not tell the noise makers immediately your not happy (as I would) don't wait till your leaving when it's to late to do anything, enough said.
Next morning same excellent breakfast & Jackie & Peter insist we leave our cars in the car park whilst we spend our last hours meandering around. I've read the terrible & poor reviews on here, don't let them put you off because they don't resemble the place or the people where we stayed, we couldn't fault the Hotel, the rooms, the food & most of all we couldn't fault the staff & Jackie & Peter with their North East hospitality, it was our first stay at Windermere & very enjoyable it was & when were back, well you know where we'll be staying.

We found the staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was fine, had everything we needed and was very clean, as was the en-suite. Breakfast was nice with plenty to choose from. We had a meal at the hotel one evening, it was lovely and well worth the money paid. Cooking could have been an issue because the chef had broken his wrist but Jackie & Peter (owners) rolled up their sleeves and all was well. The hotel has a good location being slightly nearer to Windermere than Bowness but both very walkable. We parked our car and didn't use it all weeeknd, preffering to walk, bus or go by boat. After a long day out it was nice to relax in the bar with a nightcap and some friendly staff & guests. All in all a very enjoyable weekend.

Thank you for you review and I am pleased you had an enjoyable weekend. After 25 years in the business we have had to roll our sleeves up several times but after four weeks the chef is now back in action and the stress lines are beginning to fade. See you again soon I hope.

when me and my partner arrived at the hotel we were impressed by the way the hotel looked from the outside. It had a cosy and comfy look to it and the room matched that same first impress we had. Having the Deluxe room was wonderful, the breakfast was lovely and so were the people there. so friendly infact me and my parter got a lift from the hotel owner from the hotel to the liesure centre in windermere and also a lift to oxenholme the day we left to go back to london. the lake district is a wonderful relaxing place to visit and this is a much reccomended hotel to stay at.

Stayed at the hotel for a couple of nights with a large group of friends. The hotel was marvellous in all respects - the rooms were beautifully decorated, the bar was cosy and the staff excellent. The owners were really helpful and Jackie provided free warm scones and tea/cooffee on arrival - very welcoming. The hotel itself is a few minutes walk into Windermere or a longer (15min?) walk down to the lake, very convenient. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel.
