This was our first visit to the Lake District. The hotel is in a great location just a short walk or bus trip to ambleside. The views are amazing across the lake. We had excellent meals in the bar and in the leisure club cafe which serves food until 9:00 pm. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we had two small children. Breakfast is really excellent - great hot and cold buffet, and boiled/ poached eggs etc available to order. We had a great room - not with a lake view, but with a separate ( though connected) room for the kids, so lots of space and nice touches including welcome bags for the kids. The decor in the room was a little bit tired and the furniture a bit mis matching, but that wasn't really a problem. The hotel has lots of "lounging" areas so it really is very comfortable and relaxing. Staff are really friendly, and attentive. I would definitely return.

We had a very enjoyable short break at the Low Wood Hotel including a great meal in the Windermere Restaurant. The service throughout the hotel was very courteous; we were particularly impressed that the breakfast maître d' remembered my coffee order from the previous day. We booked a House Double room as we didn't expect to spend enough time in it to warrant paying extra for a lake view. Before arriving we were concerned that we should have booked a Lake View room as pictures on booking sites make the House Double look fairly basic, however we were more than happy with our room which was clean, well presented with a nice new bathroom. My partner particularly liked the complimentary hot chocolate and Kendal mint cake provided with the kettle – very welcome following a long hike! The hotel is on a busy road and it’s a bit of a walk to the nearest village, restaurants or shops, but as it has good facilities on site and we had a car we didn't find that to be a problem. Being a bank holiday we were actually glad to be slightly removed from the crowds in Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere and the view more than makes up for not being in the centre of everything.

Room Tip: We were concerned the House Double would be a bit basic as the pictures on booking sites don't d...

Dear Guest, Thank you for your recent review about your stay at the hotel, we are glad you enjoyed the hotel. We do very much appreciate your comments about the house rooms, whilst they may not have defined features or lake views they are as you say still comfortable, and include all the facilities of the classic and feature rooms.

It was great to read that after a long walk you enjoyed the Kendal mint cake and hot chocolate and I am sure this was very deserved. Once again thank you for your review as we hope to welcome you back to the hotel again in the future Kind Regards, Michelle Croukamp, Operations Manager

Booked to stay for 2 nights as a getaway...the hotel location is great for exploring the lakes.. Hop on hop off busses run regularly and stop right outside hotel.
The staff at the hotel were great from checking in to checking out...room was very spacious and was in the leisure club side with an absolutely fantastic lake view. Room was clean and tidy with all the facilities you need, tea coffee, toiletries, iron and ironing board an safe....
Bar staff were very friendly and for a hotel the prices were good, restaurant whilst quite hot was nice with lake view, really nice evening dinner menu recommend lamb or pork :-)
The breakfast was lush full English or continental with lots to choose from, probably one of the best I've had anywhere.
Ambleside was about 20mins walk away... Would recommend a stay here it's a great venue for something special or just a treat, guest services were great as asked for champagne in room for arrival an everything was perfect... If you are looking for a place to stay in the lakes Low Wood Bay is one to look out for.

Having previously stayed at the Low Wood for the first time in May, we were so impressed with the overall at mosphere and facilities that we returned to celebrate our wedding anniversary over the August Bank Holiday weekend. From the moment we arrived until the time we left we were made to feel welcome & special - they went out of their way to make it an anniversary to remember. The rooms are clean & comfortable with lots of storage space. The food - evening meals & breakfasts - is excellent with good variety & choice. The facilities - gym, pool, hot-tub, sauna, spa etc are excellent, clean & well-maintained. The lounge & bar areas are comfortable - great for a quite drink or coffee & a read. There is free wi-fi in the rooms & communal areas. The position overlooking the water-sports centre is ideal for access to Windermere, Ambleside & for walking & golf. Overall, an ideal venue for a relaxing break in the Lakes.

Room Tip: If you can get one overlooking the Lake the views are stunning.

We have just got back from celebrating our mini- moon after our wedding in Low Wood Bay and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. When we arrived we found out that we had been upgraded to a lake facing room and in the room there was a congratulations balloon along with a card from the hotel. The hotel is literally across the road from the lake so is in an amazing location. We could have spent hours sitting in the lounge area watching the day go by as if over looks the lake.

The room was lovely, with a huge bathroom including a jacuzzi bath and the bed was so comfortable. We went and used the leisure club facilities and particularly liked the hot tub!!!!

Breakfast was great and had a fantastic selection!!!!!!

Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: We had a first floor lake facing room
