“Great location but wouldn't choose this hotel again”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2012

The hotel looked much better on the Internet than in real life. The room (507) was on the small side considering we were staying there for 4 nights and very dark - one small window higher up on the wall. Cleanliness was pretty average - rooms cleaned every day but there were a couple of dirty/dusty patches that I had noticed that remained there for the duration of our stay. Interesting to see the comments about the bad service at breakfast as we had no problem with the service at all and always plenty of what we wanted - a good selection of cooked and continental breakfast. A great location to explore the southern lakes but if I make a trip again I will be looking to try a different hotel.

Dear Laura2910

Thank you for taking the time to write a review since staying at the Resort for four nights in room 507.

I am sorry you found the house room small, we do offer larger rooms from our Calssic and Feature room selection, some also have Lake View's across Lake Windermere. Next time if visiting please consider one of these options if you would wish for a larger room, they do carry a supplement to the cheaper house room, but would make for a better option when staying for longer periods of time.

Thank you for noting the breakfast service you recieved each morning, as a large Resort Hotel we look to cater for all tastes.

Pease do not be put off by your last room allowcation, given the chance you will see its worth the extra little expense and I am posative given this you would recommend the bedrooms also.

kind regards Nevil Jeffery - General Manager

We stayed here for 3 nights with our 15 year old daughter, we had a family room with a sofa bed on the ground floor, then up some stairs there was a double bed. storage space was split between the 2 areas. The room was clean and comfortable, the bathroom had a great shower but was small and had no make up mirror....poor for a 4 star hotel. I asked to borrow a hot water bottle, they could not supply this.

Breakfast was great, service at dinner was very slow.
Swimming pool, hot tub etc.was great.

Views and situation of the hotel were fantastic.

Staff were friendly and help full, thank you to the waitress who got me gluten free toast each morning.

Room Tip: Our friends were in room 305, there was a constant noise possibly from a large fridge, they were mov...

Dear Jenlauderscotland

It is pleasing to read that in the main you enjoyed your family break with us, however i am sorry we missed the mark on a couple of points.

Family split level rooms good, bathroom a little small sorry for that and will look into an additional mirror for makeup.
Breakfast great, but dinner service slow, sorry for that need to look into what could have been the issue. Normally very posative to the service times on dinner, however we must have got this wrong on this occasion.

We pride ourselves on achieving service with a friendly smile, we may not get it right all the time, but we do rectify when made aware. Pleased as normal we could cater to your dietary requirments each morning.

hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you and your family back in the near future.

Good location , right on the lake , Room 504 / 505 small and cramped with inadequate heating, it will be really cold in the winter. i agree with another reviewer about the breakfast, good choice of cooked and continental type food , but poor service , had to find staff to ask for coffee, hot water etc. Also Cafe del Fuego had no food available in the afternoon when we arrived. top marks for the spa/swimming/suana etc . We would stay here again but at a reduced cost, 3 star facilities(spa excluded) with 4/5 star prices.

Room Tip: Dont accept room 500 upwards very small and cramped unless at reduced price.

Dear GRS51

Thank you for writing this review and I am pleased in the main you enjoyed your break with us.

Sorry you found our House rooms small, we do offer larger rooms which are the classics and feature rooms, some also have Lake views which i would recommend. I take onboard your comments relating to the heating for these rooms, however the heating is on 24 hours and is controlled at the heater via the guests. We manage expectation by setting these to a comfactable 15, but these can be altered by the guests up and down.

I am disappointed we let ourselves down on breakfast service, please be assured we try to cater for all needs, I am just sorry we got it wrong on this occasion.

Got married at the Low Wood in August and had a fantastic day, We love the location which is the main reason we chose it, but the hotel itself is also great. Don't go if you want ultra modern, this is a Victorian building with loads of charm. Some reviewers say some of the rooms are shabby but the room I had the night before the wedding was beautiful and the bridal suite is fantastic. I have always thought the bar and restaurant areas are stunning and I love the art nouveau style decor. The wedding all went very smoothly and wedding co-ordinators Gemma and Rea did a great job. The staff were helpful and attentive without being instrusive and the food was fantastic. To me the Low Wood will always be a very special place.

Had a morning in their spa which I was really looking forward to but on arrival the girl on reception was in need of some customer service training on how to interact with the paying customer. There was no conversation even after I said it was my first visit no instruction on where to find things just asked the ridiculous price of £3 for the use of their rough towel. Most other spa's I've been to give you them anyway the hot tub was great as was the sauna but the jacuzzi area is need of some attention. Over all it's a basic spa and probably better in the area.

I am sorry we did not meet your expectations on this occasion when visiting the Leisure Club at the Low Wood Bay Resort. I would just like to clarrify to readers, we do not advertise ourselves as being a SPA. However we do pride ourselves on friendly service and obviously on this occasion the welcome and service at the Leisure Club fell short of this, please be assured this has been discussed with the team in question.

I always read other tripadvisor reviews with interest and I know there are a few comments replating to cleanliness especially when you start looking into the corners of the rooms. I have to say I'm not an amateur hotel inspector and really can't be bothered to look for dirt. On the face of it our room, room 9 was clean.

The room is right at the front of the hotel, almost over hanging the road, however the view is great. The traffic noise is audible through the day, however I suspect like most people we weren't in the room much during the day. The road is quiet through the evening and overnight and we slept very well on both our nights in the room.

Service from the staff was generally good and personable, especially at reception and in the restaurant.

My only disappointment was the quality of the food. For a 4 star hotel to have 3663 as a supplier is disappointing. As an example, the Angus Burger, was clearly a frozen mass produced product, I would've expected a handmade burger in this supposed quality of hotel. There are other examples, such as bags of Kingsmill bread just left out at breakfast for guests. I really think the hotel could improve the quality of food offered.

That being said I would recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Room 9 for a confortable bed with a great view

Dear Lovethesun01_10

Firstly thank you for writting a constructive review from the point of view of somebody that truely understands what this site is all about.

Pleased you liked room 9 with its view over Lake Windermere, and as you say traffic although there during the day, its quiet during the night.

I am sorry you found the food disappointing however i can confirm the Angus Burger along with all meats, fish and poutry are locally sourced within a 70 mile radios and are in no way frozen products. We utalise the one stop approach with 3663 for dry produce such as seasoning or tinned produce and paper disposable.

I take on board your comment relating to the bread for toasting at breakfast being presented as it is. As a quality product its good to clarify directly with diners we only use quality bread, however its also very important to cater for dietary needs and this way guests can fully understand what the ingriedance are or if the break could contact nuts ect. however due yo your comments i will be looking into alternative presentation and i thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Again thanks you for your constructive comments and reward comments also.

Trouble on both mornings with breakfast, food was good but the service was terrible, kept running out of things and not replacing them, orange juice, bread for the toast, side plates for toast and breakfast cakes, not enough staff and very badly directed.
