“Lovely room, great breakfast and very helpful owners”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

My fiancé and I enjoyed a lot our 5 nights stay in Montfront cottage. Paul and Sue were very careful in preparing for me a great gluten free breakfast which was also a very good start of the day. Moreover this lovely couple was always available to respond our questions and very helpful all the time. The room was clean, cozy, well equipped and met all our expectations. The small details like teddy bear, really nice smelling shampoo and shower gel, as well as coffee making facilities made our stay even more comfortable. The location could not have been better as we could choose between Windermere and Bowness which were both a short walking distance from the cottage. We would like to return back! My husband and I stayed for 4 nights, Paul and Sue the owners were a wonderful friendly couple who made sure we had a wonderful stay, the room was clean and cosy with nice touches such as a teddy on the bed and tea and coffee making facilities, with wonderful biscuits, there were really nice shampoo, conditioner and body wash together with hand cream in the bathroom, breakfast was wonderfully cooked and there was plenty of it, a wonderful ambience to this B & B. The only downside is that you will have to book early to stay here as it is so good it will be booked up months in advance. See you next year Sue and Paul, love Pete and and Pauline.

Hats off to Sue and Paul for making us both (gay couple) welcome in their home.
Even before we arrived, the communication received was of a very good standard.
Upon booking, Sue and Paul were very knowledgeable and helpful as it was our first time to the area.
The room met (and exceeded) our expectations and the en suite was well presented.
Breakfast was tasty and filling and Sue and Paul provided great conversation (and local knowledge) and banter as we ate with the other guests.
We would love to stay again :)

We booked into Montfort Cottage for 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend for mine and my girlfriends anniversary. I had previously contacted Paul at the cottage who was extremely helpful in sorting out some flowers & wine for our arrival! The hosts Paul and Sue were absolutely brilliant and could not have done more for us over our stay. Breakfast is brilliant and is however you request it! The cottage itself is brilliantly situated between Bowness & Windermere town centres. Both towns are easily walkable from the Cottage. We were given the Windermere room in the cottage which was the biggest in the Cottage and on the top floor. The room was brilliant and felt very homely, nothing was missed. The bed was extremely comfortable! Had a great stay and will definitely be returning!

We stayed at Monfort Cottage for four days on our recent trip to England. I'll break down our stay into three categories: the cottage, the location and the hosts.

The Cottage - Montfort Cottage itself is a charming house built in the traditional slate construction so typical of the Lake District. There's a pretty little garden at the front, where you can sit if you like, but there are so many sites available nearby that it's probably unlikely you'll be there as opposed to hiking in the hills or sailing on the lakes. The rooms themselves are very comfortable. Our room, the Grasmere, had its own private en suite, which was certainly welcome after a hard day's hiking. Everything was very clean and tidy. It may sound minor but the number of hangers was a nice touch. Quite a lot of places give you only 3 or 4 hangars, we must have had closer to 10, which really makes a difference when you're trying to unpack.

The location - we came by train with an enormous suitcase, so the fact that the guesthouse is perhaps only 10 or 15 minutes walk from the station was a big plus for us. More importantly, however, it's a quick and easy walk both into Windermere and into Bowness. The lake is nearby and it's just as easy to head away from the lake get into the hills. I'd recommend these hills in particular - they're a lot smaller than those you'll find up by Ambleside (to the north of the lake) or over at Coniston, but they afford excellent views and have far fewer tourists on them. It's also pretty easy to get to nearby villages, hills and lakes as it's not far to a bus stop, where you can pick up a bus that takes you pretty much anywhere in the Lakes for a GBP 7 day pass.

The hosts - they were wonderful, incredibly helpful in every way. From arrival, when they helped us with our incredibly cumbersome and heavy suitcase, through breakfast, when they serve a freshly-made hot meal each morning (I recommend the scambled eggs and salmon in particular) to their hiking tips, where they're only too happy to share their knowledge of the local area and lend you maps and guidebooks to help you out. Nothing was too much trouble, they really seem to take pleasure in meeting new people, getting to know their guests and helping them get the most out of their holiday. They made everything a pleasure.

In sum, it's an excellent guesthouse that I can wholeheartedly recommend. I will definitely be checking their availability next time I'm in the Lakes.

A lovely little guest house with friendly hosts!
Location is perfect - within short walking distance of both Windermere town centre and Bowness.
The room we stayed in was great (Buttermere) due to the small touches - teddy bear on the bed to welcome us, tea & coffee tray and lovely soaps in the bathrooms. Bed was very comfortable and no trouble with noise from the streets.
Last but not least, the friendly hosts, Paul and Sue, were very accommodating from start to finish and made our stay extra special. We had a fantastic time and cant wait to return next year! As they have only recently started this guesthouse together I genuinely hope they receive many more bookings and great reviews for years to come.

Lovely stay hosted by a lovely couple. Perfect distance from Bowness to stretch those legs! Friendly atmosphere and we were both made to feel welcome. In a nutshell a relaxing few days. Same time next year?
