I stayed in the cranny guest lodge, set behind the b&b. It was great, fully equipped with all the homely touches you would expect. It was super for a short stay, ideal for Bowness and Windermere access. Thanks

WE selected Ivythwaite from the many B&B's on the tourist trail through 'the lakes' and I am glad we did. We arrived a little late but Mick had called to ensure we were on our way and that he would be there to greet us when we arrived. He showed us to our room and the 250 gallon spa bath, what can we say we loved both the room and the bath (built for 2). Ivythwiate has won awards for their breakfasts and we were delighted by the choice of cereals, fruits, yoghurts and hot plates. We both enjoyed a start to the day of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs washed down by fresh orange juice and delicious coffee. What can we say but a gem not to be missed

Room Tip: for a romantic break go for the spa bath ;-)

We were looking for somewhere that was comfortable, warm & that had a bath as my partner had just completed a 40 odd mile fell race & needed some R & R. We found it at the Ivythwaite Lodge in the Langdale Pikes room. A lovely decorated room with a four poster bed & spa bath. We were warmly welcomed by Mick who gave us all the information we needed including how to use the bath. We got our monies worth as my partner was struggling to walk so we spent the whole evening in our room. The bed was so comfortable & we both had a fantastic nights sleep. Mick asked us to put in our preferences in for breakfast & we both asked for the works. (bacon, sausage, mushroom & scrambled egg) & it was delicious!
I'd highly recommend anyone to stay here as it was very good value for money, very welcoming & close to both Windermere & Bowness.

I highly recommend the Ivythwaite if you need a getaway romantic weekend in Windermere. The rooms are well-decorated in a manner that is contemporary but classic, and which feels sumptuous (as opposed to the Grandma's-quilt look of some other places). There are set breakfast options every morning (which you chose in the evening), but they are delicious (especially Wendy's pancakes-- crepes, as Americans would call them) and with the fresh fruit, yogurt and warm toast available in addition to whatever you order, you won't leave for your adventures hungry. Ivythwaite is located about a 7 minute walk from Windermere proper, and 15 (if that) from Bowness-on-Windermere, but it's an exceedingly pretty and easy walk (if you haven't brought your car). In addition to the lovely gardens and good breakfast and fine location and warm hospitality, the real selling point is that all of the rooms have two-person spa tubs. You're only allowed to use them until 10:30, however, so make sure you come home from dinner early enough to enjoy them! After a long day of hiking, the early curfew shouldn't be too much of a problem. In sum, I highly recommend the Ivythwaite for a romantic getaway!

Just returned from a 2 night stay at 'The Cranny', Ivythwaite Lodge. The cottage was spotlessly clean, in a brilliant location and was a perfect size for our family of 3 with everything we needed.

Excellent hosts and a great place to come back to each evening.

We'll most definitely visit again on our next trip and recommend highly.

We have been frequent visitors to the lake district now for many years and have stayed in almost every kind of accomodation available, but after our first stay in Ivythwaite 3 years ago we can't help but just keep coming back.
We've used both the B&B accomodation and we're lucky enough to grab a last minate bargain with their lovely 'cranny' self catering apartment this winter.
The location is quiet but conveinienty sited in walking distance from both Windermere and Bowness. The rooms are very clean and spacious with four poster beds and spa baths and the owners Wendy and Mick are a delight, they can never do enough for us and are happy to help with anything, including advice on things to do and places to go. I'm a vegitarian so was dreading the hearty cumbrian breakfast but was so pleased when Wendy was able to offer me an alternative when I mentioned it after we arrived. Wendy's breakfasts are made using all locally sourced produce and my husband says the bacon and sausages are splendid.
There is ample parking and a lovely garden to relax in and with standards one would expect from a hotel but at half the cost, we will definatly be coming back again soon. Thank you Wendy & Mick.

We have just returned after a short stay at 'the cranny' (the self catering cottage adjoining this b&b), which was truly fabulous. We were greeted by Mick who showed us to the cottage and made us feel welcome from the outset; showing us where everything was and generally chatting about walks etc. We had arranged with Mick and Wendy to have breakfast in the b&b, which was scrumptious both mornings, with the options of smoked salmon and scrambled egg; a full cooked Cumbrian breakfast; freshly made pancakes or omelettes.
The cottage was extremely well equipped for a family of four. Our children slept on the king sized sofa bed, which was very comfortable, and we had our own double bedroom. It is beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean!
Without doubt, we shall return to The Cranny and will recommend it to all we know!
Well done Mick and Wendy! Your hard work has definitely been worth it!
