“Fantastic, Comfort all the way.”
Reviewed June 5, 2011

We have just returned from spending one of the most comfortable nights accommodation ever experienced in a B&B ,and believe me we have spent many a night in many a B&B over the last ten years, but Heather and her husband exeeded all before them. The comfort of the bedroom, the cleanliness of the bathroom, and the breakfast in the morning were surperb. We can only offer the highest praise for our one nights sojourn to The Chestnuts in the very beautiful Windermere in The Lake District of Cumbria.

A really nice, family run guest house.

Breakfast was great and there was plenty of it!

Plus, only a three pound taxi ride into Windermere town centre.

I would stay here again.

Chestnuts is located a short walk from the town centre of Windermere, reasonable off road parking, and our room was spotlessly clean, a good size, and had a 4 poster bed.

Staff were very polite, if slightly reserved, some may like this, others may misinterpret as being off hand. The highlight was undoubtedly the breakfasts, excellent variety, and a cooked English breakfast beautifully presented, no grease or fat and sufficient for most appetites. Tea and coffee arrive in decent sized pots allowing more than 2 cups per person. Evening meals can be taken in the town of Windermere, plenty of variety, Italian Chinese Indian etc also a small fish and chip shop provides an excellent cheap alternative. At he top of the town, 10 mins walk from C/Nuts is the Queens Pub, good food except the chicken curry, which was a stew !! Decent local beer though !

The lake District offers great opportunities for exploration, both in the car on foot or afloat. Although visiting a number of sites can be expensive. Motor museum @ lakeland £7 adult ticket is a bit steep. Also the westmoorland shopping centre @ Kendall is a waste of time, and expensive to park, that said, the small hamlets and villages up and down the lakes affords opportunity to explore gift shops, antique markets, and other local attractions. Walking the Fells requires stamina, and decent walking boots as well as wet weather clothing. To fit in one must have a rucksack, and a walking pole, both readily available for a price ! We found all the local proprietors extremely helpful, An absolute must is the Beatrix Potter museum close to Windermere. We will certainly return.

Very clean good size rooms with 4 poster beds. We took 6 of the 7 rooms and were very well looked after. One spacious room on the ground floor if you don't like stairs. Other rooms had baths or showers. Breakfast ,very high standard and beautifully served by a bubbly young lady.
The guest house is in easy walking distance of both Windermere and Bowness.
I don't think they will have any problems with their occupancy rates

Our first impression of this beautiful, well cared for, house and garden was WOW. The surrounding area was equally impressive and it was indeed within walking distance to both Windermere and Bowness so ditching car and eating out in evening no problem. Our second impression was how clean and tastefully decorated the Hotel was and we knew we could relax in our lovely bedroom, where everything you could need was already in place and of a very high standard. Staff were very friendly and attentive and the breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed our stay and made use of the facilities at Windermere Manor. We would highly recommend this Hotel for anyone looking for a well situated, competively priced Hotel with extra facilities close by for a break in the lovely Lake District.

Beats a Travel Lodge or Best Western hands down!
When we arrived Heather welcomed us with coffee and home-made cake (delicious!) while she told us about the hotel - we admired all the natural wood and the atmosphere it created.
Our room contained a lovely wooden 4-poster bed, and next morning when we said we were too hot under the quilt, Heather gladly changed it for a lower-tog blanket. And the extremely-filling breakfast was delicious!
Chestnuts was ideally-situated, 10 minutes walk from the lake at Bowness and 5 minutes walk from Windermere town centre.
We would strongly recommend this lovely guest house and will go back again whenever we are in the area.
