Rydal Water is an outstanding corner of the Lake District and handy for Wordsworth's home and garden at Rydal Mount, Dora's field where he and his family planted daffodil's in Dora's memory, and the lovely path through the grounds of Rydal Hall (with a cafe next to a beck). What's not to like?

We did a walk from Ambleside to rydal water. Long but great views. Well worth it. It goes over loughrigg too. Bit hilly in places but flattens out.

Beautiful views both from above and below. Pop into the Badgers bar or sit in the beer garden and admire the view from there. It's heaven on earth.

Took a short round trip upto the caves here and then back down along the lakes edge. Beautiful scenery, loads for the kids to look at and wonderful fresh air. Can fish, paddle or just enjoy the view.

If you are out with children this might be a great option for you. If starting from the roadside there is little elevation gain but pleasantly changing terrain including bridges, forest, and more open fields. We were fortunate to happen upon Rydal Water when the bluebells were at their finest - a transcendent experience! Lovely spot for a picnic, afternoon wander, or early morning / late afternoon photo opportunities. Quiet, peaceful and well-worth the walk from Grasmere.
