First thing to know is, if you have arrived by train, you are over a mile from the lake !!
When the line was first designed it was to go to Low Wood Bay. This however was refused by certain local factions, and it then ended at Birthwaite village, which was re-named Windermere to make it obvious to the traveller where they were getting off. This is why Windermere village is over a mile from Windermere Lake !
Loads to do, boat trips, shops, cafe's, Beatrix Potter Exhibition, Costa Coffee, restaurants, fish & chips, Boat Museum, hotels, b&b's etc etc
