“Lake Windermere”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

First thing to know is, if you have arrived by train, you are over a mile from the lake !!
When the line was first designed it was to go to Low Wood Bay. This however was refused by certain local factions, and it then ended at Birthwaite village, which was re-named Windermere to make it obvious to the traveller where they were getting off. This is why Windermere village is over a mile from Windermere Lake !
Loads to do, boat trips, shops, cafe's, Beatrix Potter Exhibition, Costa Coffee, restaurants, fish & chips, Boat Museum, hotels, b&b's etc etc

“Picturesque and relaxing”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

We visited the Lake District as part of a short mid week break as we were in the area and had been several times before. As always the lakes were stunning, the views are outstanding and the walking is wonderful, even if you are only fit enough for a gentle stroll around. The opportunity to take some amazing photographs is ever present. Take a trip on a boat on the lakes where this is available it is so relaxing and you can see so much more of the lake by boat than if you just drive around in your car.
The towns in this area are well worth a visit, especially some of the quaint shops and most memorably the sweet shop in Keswick which is outstanding and a dream for anyone with a sweet tooth! There are loads of places to stay, from the bed and breakfasts to some stunning hotels with views across Lake Windermere, these ones however, can be very expensive. Be prepared and take your walking boots and wet weather gear if you are the outdoors type of person, it frequently rains here. Probably not a great place to walk your dogs unless they don't mind being on a lead as there are sheep everywhere.
