this is a really nice little town and a big lake!. lots to see and do, BUT be aware that everybody and their granny wants to be at windermere!!!
not that thats a bad thing, but it can get very crowded, especially around the boat houses where you get a round the lake trip.
However, once you get away from this the scenery is marvellous and well worth the visit.

Just returned from a wonderful weekend away. We took a boat to Ambleside which was a very pretty place, lovely walks and waterfall there too which is a must visit.( just next to the Barclays bank in the town centre and follow the signs). Windermere was very busy whilst we were there but it was a very warm late September weekend. Lots of pubs, restaurants and little cosy cafe's. Scenery is beautiful. Can't wait to visit again soon.

Get the full round trip ticket and just relax on a full cruise round the lake. Very peaceful and relaxing.

First of all it is a VERY busy place car parking could be difficult - but still manages to retain it's charm. Got on at Ambleside and took the 70 minute trip to Bowness which was £10 each. We started out on one of the larger boats The Swan and then got off at Bowness and changed to one of smaller boats on the way back - most people stop in Bowness to have a look around before getting back on. Very windy out on the lake be prepared! All of the staff very pleasant and nice even though they have to deal with lots of people.

Great views from the boat on lake Windermere. You can't visit the lakes without going on a boat trip on Lake Windermere
