“A Very Merry Christmas !!”
Reviewed January 1, 2011

This was our first visit to Gilpin Lodge and it definitely won't be our last. Having checked out the website before our stay, our expectations were high - they were definitely exceeded !!Spending Christmas somewhere new can be a gamble however from the minute we arrived we knew we were on to a winner! We received a very warm welcome from everyone and the friendliness of the staff continued throughout our stay. Christmas Day was a blast - the best fun we've had in ages! The rooms are stunning, very comfortable and very well appointed and the lounge and dining areas are beautifully decorated and very cosy. The food (prepared by Head Chef Russell and his team) was amazing and the Souffle for dessert is a must! The mangement and staff are very professional and friendly, special thanks to Barney, Zoe, Jenny, Richard, Tom, Ziggi & Sarah for making our stay such a fun and pleasurable experience. We can see why Gilpin Lodge won 'Small Hotel Of The Year Award' for 2010

All the staff at Gilpin Lodge made sure we had a wonderful Christmas, first class service, curtious and helpful. Excellent food with a varied and selective festive menu.
Due to te extreme weather conditions the boat trip on the lake on Boxing Day had to be cancelled as was the car treasure hunt. However the staff made sure we had alternative options to keep us busy and occupied. My pleasure was sitting outside in the hot tub with the snow falling down around me. Looking forward to returning in the summer time and maybe next Christmas.

All the staff made us feel totally at home in this luxurious place. Nestled in the Cumbrian fells, it is surrounded by beautiful scenery, a perfect, tranquil setting for the Hotel and Lake House, which has its own tarn.
The Lake House accommodation was opulent yet very comfortable and homely.
The cuisine was superb and the Chef was always able and willing to cater for all dietary requirements.
Finally, and most importantly, the staff, and service was superb. When we left, it felt like we were leaving home!
Congratulations and thank you, Gilpin.

Spent Friday and Saturday at the hotel and lake house with 18 members of my family who range from pensioners through to teenagers. Some stayed at the lake house others the hotel.

It was a great weekend at an excellent venue. Food was lovely, service from Zoe, Barney, Richard and the rest of the team was attentive, rooms are excellent, location lovely. What's not to like?

Myself and my partner recently returned from a 2 nights stay a Gilpin Lodge. We stayed in a Garden Suite which can only be described as luxary. The suite had a hot tub on the private patio which was a real treat! The staff were extremely friendly and the service was second to none. The food was absolutely amazing but I was disappointed to have the choice of the same menu on both nights. Any more than 2 nights and I would have struggled to choose a dish that I liked that I hadn't already had. One other very minor disappointment of mine (and I must stress minor) was that we had forgotten to bring toothpaste with us on our weekend! The hotel were more than happy to provide us with it on request, which I expected given the amount we paid for the weekend, but I was somewhat taken back by the lack of generosity of the hotel when I found a charge for the toothpaste on our bill! This is most certainly a minor annoyance of mine but when you pay the amount that we did, I expected toothpaste to be provided without charge. Overall, extremely expensive for just the room and food but a pleasant stay.

Me and my family went to the Gilpin as part of a surprise birthday party for my dad. The staff were so amazing at the organization of the whole weekend, I could tell from the very begging that the weekend was going to be one that we wouldn't forget! We had a little trouble arriving with our car due to the snow and the hotel kindly organised for their staff to pick us up in there land rover-which was excellent service I'd say. Our party had 19 guests, 6 of which were staying in the hotel and the rest of us in the fabulous lake house. I was staying in the hotel and we got driven to the lake house in the morning for breakfast, they also took us back and to whenever we wanted. Always with a smile on their face, it never seemed a problem. I got to the full experience as i saw the hotel rooms and the lake house both designed to a high standard. The room in which i stayed was beautiful, it was very spacious and even had a jacuzzi bath.
When we were at the lake house the staff were around to help us with our every need, the food and drink was lovely and the service was second to none.
Over all the Gilpin Lodge was fantastic and it will definitely be a weekend that i wont forget.

We booked Gilpin Lodge for a family birthday party and spent the weekend at the newly renovated Lake House. The weekend could not have been more perfect. The staff became part of the family and we were sorry to leave. The attention to detail was second to none, the service was discreet and yet incredibly friendly and the food was excellent. All our party needs were catered for - no request was too much trouble. When weather conditions made transport difficult, a snow digger was bought and 4 wheel drive cars were made available, alternative entertainments had been researched and booked. The hotel went out of it's way to ensure the birthday boy had the party of his life! The house itself is beautifully designed and the interior decor is second to none. You will feel at home and yet spoilt by the luxury of it all. The outdoor hot tub, indoor swimming pool and sauna and stunning location set in acres of beautiful countryside, make this a hotel you have to visit at least once in a lifetime.
