“Beautiful Views matched with delicious food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2014

We have dined here a few times, most recently Feb 2014. We had a delicious Sunday lunch 4 courses for £27.50 which I think is great value especially for the standard of food and the service.
The hotel is in a picturesque location with great views, dining room has lovely ceiling to floor windows to make the most of this and the picture taken was at my seat at lunch, beautiful. We had coffee and petite fours in the lounge afterwards, admiring the view and reading the Sunday papers, I can't think of a better way to spend the weekend. You must visit this hotel.

Just spent the weekend at MH. Fantastic from arrival to leaving.
Splashed out on a garden suite which was fab. Dinner was excellent and the breakfasts were great. All staff were helpful and friendly. Thx for great weekend.

Third stay here in 5 years. Miller Howe is a great hotel with drawbacks many of which would be difficult to address in the current building.

Its a typical lakes Arts and Craft style large country house with fantastic views down over the sweeping lawns to the lake and across to the Langdales at the back. Stylewise internally its an eclectic mix of arts and crafts, oriental and moroccan themes. Seemed to be very warm when we were there with the heating on plus all the fires and we found it uncomfortable.

Foodwise I couldn't fault it, well presented in a modern format, we had 4 different dishes plus desserts and found ourselves full. The style may put off those who prefer a more traditional English country hotel style menu. Breakfast however was much slower with waiter service for everything, juice, cereals etc which is great but when you are hungry or in a hurry it doesn't work unless the service is quick. Breakfast itself was distinctly average, nothing special at all.

The rooms are a different matter. There are steep stairs to a number of the rooms. Our room had a balcony overlooking the lake but was clearly a bedroom conversion from yesteryear and was cosy. double bed rather than the usual king size although very comfy. Clean and decent shower. No extractor fan and tea/coffee facilities pretty basic. Small flat screen TV. Wifi difficult to connect to.

Staff varied from very helpful to overformal but unfailingly helped us. Overall well worth a stay but valuewise and facilities wise its not up there with the best at the minute although I stll like it anyway faults and all !

We've stayed at the Miller Howe several times and eaten there back to the Tovey years and had a one night visit as a birthday treat for my wife. As always the views are staggering with the Langdale Pikkes and the Coniston Fells right there, across the Lake. The room was comfortable and the service good. However, at dinner I can't help feeling that the whole event hasn't become too cheffy, style over substance. The meal was nice but short on substance and I left the table not nearly sated. We compared it with a stay at the Overwater , Bassenthwaite where we stayed the next night which was better. Sadly there are many places in the Lake District offering better value.

Room Tip: Lake view essential - staggering views

We had a night as the Miller Howe given to us as a Christmas present, we enjoyed every minute. The room was cosy and comfortable with a gorgeous view of the lake, lovely home made biscuits added a special touch to the tea and coffee tray. We found our bed really comfortable (though I suffer from a bad back and prefer a firmer bed) and the room had every thing we needed (even soap!). Ok there may be a lack of sockets (as mentioned in previous review, but not the end of the world). The food was divine, every course was delicious including the Hors d'oeuvre and soup courses that I hadn't expected. Breakfast was just as good and lovely treat to be served rather than 'buffet' style! All staff were friendly and welcoming. We will certainly return.

We have just returned from a 1 night stay with friends (for a Birthday celebration) at The Miller
Howe and it was a wonderfull, arts and crafts small hotel, It is in a superb position on Lake Windermere with breath taking
views from the bedrooms and conservatory, lounge and dining room. The bedrooms were
immaculate, warm and comfortable. The food was excellent and beautifully presented with a
good choice on the menu. (The food was fit for The Queen) who incidentally had lunch there
with Princess Anne last July !
We have stayed in many hotels in the Lake District and this is one of the best, especially
good value on the Travelzoo offer, for the standard and quality of service we received.
Unlike another reviewer, I prefer breakfast to be buffet style, especially the cereals etc,
I like to choose and help myself. Slightly disappointing that there were no prunes, nuts, dried fruit etc.
Having said that, we could certainly return and would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We had rooms overlooking the Lake with a balcony, so it was lovely waking up to a beautiful view.
