We've just returned from a 2 night break offer with Travel Zoo. Very nice hotel, beautiful views. Food was superb with a very good choice. Our room Patterdale was very nice although did not overlook the lake. The staff are all attentive and obliging. Would definitely recommend this hotel and will hopefully return in the future.

We had two nights here recently and really loved the hotel, staff and food. I paid extra for a lakeview room and we were given Troutbeck - very, very comfortable with wonderful views, warm, clean, everything that we needed or wanted for a very relaxing and restful stay. Some aspects of the room might not suit all, a litle shabby chic perhaps, but it was staying true to a bygone era not trying to be a modern city style hotel, so had kept all it's own character and hadn't been spoilt in any way with modern fittings, a lovely mix of comfort from times gone by and everything you would need for todays living. The hotel is overall quiet and restful with very high standards in all aspects in a beautiful setting. Furnishings were really comfortable, lovely fabrics and wallpapers with very unusual and interesting chairs everywhere. The dining room was quite modern, again with fantastic views, food was of a really high standard as was the service right down to the last detail. We had a lot of snow whilst we were there so fires were lit and it was very homely, the grounds down to the lake looked interesting but it wasn't walking weather! Overall we loved it.

Room Tip: Cost a little extra but well worth choosing a room with a lake view

Not been here for over 20 years. Sure the hotel is a little frayed around the edges, but staying here is all about the relaxed hospitality of a country house with stunning views.

We stayed here for 2 nights, 31 March - 2 April, on a Travelzoo deal. B&B for 2 nights, with the 3 course dinner menu on the first night. £209 for the deal, plus £10 per night for our Westie dog, plus extras. Fine value. The hotel was fully booked.

Easy to find on the A592, near Bowness. Entrance was well signed. Sufficient parking.

Arrival 3/5 - we arrived on Easter Sunday afternoon, so it was packed. Check in was swift and friendly, if a little brisk. We would have liked some info about our cottage room, which we found to be very confusing, but to be fair it was very busy.

Room 4/5 - we stayed in the Lancashire room, part of the Gardener's Cottage. Smallish room with a very comfortable double bed. Nice quality sheets and pillows. Small flat tv. Plenty of cupboards and wardrobe space. I think the cottage has 3 rooms, but I'm not sure. We also had a small lounge on the same level and a large kitchen on the lower floor. It looked like the set up could be varied to allow the lounge and kitchen to be used by other rooms. We were never sure who had access to the lounge and kitchen, and it did concern us a little, as we could not lock our bedroom door. As a result, we locked valuables in our car. We asked at reception about acess to our room, but came away just as confused. Tea/ coffee facilities. You get a lake view, but not as nice a view as from the main hotel. The tv remote did not work which they sorted very quickly.

Reasonable size bathroom with a good shower and a Jacuzzi bath (does anyone ever use these?). Nice Moulton Brown toiletries. Lots of fluffy towels.

Everything is cottage style and a little faded, but full of character.

Food 5/5 - breakfast - very nice, with great views over the lake. Plenty of choice and cooked to order. Good quality. Day 1 - full English (fab sausages). Day 2 - smoked haddock and poached egg, plus I asked for one of their superb sausages too!! We even took a bit for our dog, who was equally impressed!!

Dinner - stunning views of the sunset over the lake. Wow - what a great setting for dinner. Nice food. Average canapes, then a pleasant, if under seasoned free-bee mushroom soup. Lovely starters - lobster & pigeon. Fine mains - fillet steak and venison. Good desert - assiette of passion fruit and a great cheese selection. Nice coffee and petit fours in the conservatory. All washed down with a glass of champagne to start (£11 per glass) and a bottle South African red (£35). All wines reasonably priced, particularly the house wines.

Public rooms 4/5 - cosy, quirky, a bit faded, but full of character and fine the views from virtually everywhere.

Staff 5/5 - always friendly, polite and helpful.

Gardens 3/5 - again great views, but in need of some TLC.

Overall 4/5 - the house was not built as a hotel, so there are inevitably compromises. If you wanted modern, chic and cool, then this may not be for you. If you want country house hospitality in a stunning setting, then you'll like it here - we did. We will return, hopefully in less than 20 years time!!

Room Tip: Get the best view room for your budget, but if not, all public rooms have great views.

We snagged a room due to a cancellation on the Easter weekend, for the price we paid, I expected a lot more.... The pillows were terrible & flat. The bed was noisy, hard, springy & small. The shower was awful, no pressure at all. The curtain (no door) separating the bathroom from the bedroom didnt cover the door way all they way. Wifi didn't work in our room, after a call to reception, they said they would reboot it, Still didn't work. There was no soap to wash our hands in the bathroom. We had to boil the jug on the floor as this was the only power outlet that would fit. Breakfast was just ok, the bread they use for the French toast & with the smoked salmon is far too sweet. All these things wouldn't have mattered so much if it wasn't as costly as it was. The views however were spectacular. The staff & service were pleasant enough too

Had an overnight stay at the Miller Howe, our room was on the top floor with a stunning view over Lake Windermere from the balcony. Staff were very friendly & knowledgeable and the hotel extremely comfortable. Food for both the evening meal and breakfast was excellent and whilst this is not the cheapest hotel in Windermere it's definately worth the cost.

We certainly plan to return

Stayed 2 nights at the Miller Howe. We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who showed us straight to our room which was on the top floor and had a full lake view. Here she gave us the registration forms to complete which was far better than standing around reception completing them. Room was lovely although not huge with fantastic views of the lake and snow capped fells. Both bedroom and bathroom were well equipped. We had 2 breakfasts, one evening meal and one afternoon tea, we could not fault any of the meals or the service. Room was kept tidy and the toiletries and tea/coffee replenished twice daily, the Hotel offer an evening turn down service. we would definitely return and recommend the hotel to others.

Just back from two very good days at the Miller Howe, this was our first visit to this comfortable hotel and we were impressed. We had a KGB deal so we were there on a bed and breakfast basis, the food at breakfast time was tasty and plentiful and nicely served by a friendly staff. We had the Haweswater room which was on the side of the hotel but we could still see the lake, had the weather not been near arctic it would have been lovely to sit on the sun terrace, but, because of the cold, we had to keep the door shut ! The room was very good and a good sized bathroom as well, there was loads of tea and coffee and also, on both days some tasty home made biscuits, a nice touch. All of the public rooms were comfortable, the only downside when we were there was that the Wi Fi wasn't working, but that, at the time was being fixed. A good stay in a good hotel
