“Perfect fish , a gem of a find, but you must book”
Reviewed June 22, 2014

We read about this restaurant owned and run by Michael and boy are we glad we booked, not to would have been a travesty, the food is to die for , the wine list is ace, Michael is a great people person and keeps a tight ship, attentive in a great way , there is no being rushed here , he spaces bookings and it makes you feel that the tables are yours for as long as you need, we had a lazy 2 hour 3 course meal , perfect quality fish , some of the best wherever we have been and we are fish fiends.
Don't miss out , make sure you book this gem of a restaurant - we would travel back for another visit for the evening and we live 1 hr 15 mins away - worth it

“Eat your heart out Rick Stein”
Reviewed June 21, 2014

The best fish restaurant in England? Certainly the best I have been to. Although the menu is relatively small all the dishes are superbly cooked in a very traditional style. The front of house owner manages the service in a friendly and efficient manner. Well worth visiting but book well in advance.

“Delightful meal”
Reviewed June 20, 2014

Fish perfectly cooked, lovely accompaniments, warm welcome, efficient service. Four of us ate dinner at Hooked and all were very pleased with our choices. Deft touch with seasoning and nothing over or under-cooked. Very fresh fish. All the starters are fish-based, too, so if you aren't a big seafood lover, this might not be the place for you. But if you are, book it! Lovely wine, too, and desserts. Very small room, essential to book.

“Good”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

Spoke to the owner to make a reservation and he was lovely. Very friendly and chatty. Upon arrival we were given a very warm welcome. The restaurant was fully booked. My husband ordered white bate and his verdict was that he enjoyed his starter. It was as good as he had ever had before. For the main course I ordered Dover Sole and my husband ordered Char. He was lucky to be able to sample Char as there were only two and they immediately sold out. The main course was accompanied by a selection of freshly prepared vegetables. He thoroughly enjoyed his meal.I would have liked the Dover Sole to be larger and more succulent, especially as it was priced at £23.00. I thought generally that the meal was good but not very exciting. I enjoy crab and scallops but this was not offered on the menu. We ordered one desert, the lemon cheesecake with a Grasmere gingerbread biscuit base, accompanied by a coconut ice cream. This was good but again, not exciting. We usually eat at lunchtime and we find that it is very good value. For example, a three course lunch at the Sharrow Bay Hotel is about £27.50. By comparison we paid the same price at Hooked, but for one starter, two main courses and one desert. I appreciate this was an evening meal and food tends to be dearer in the evening, but I think Hooked was rather expensive. Hooked does however offer very fresh produce, excellent service and generally we enjoyed the evening.

“A real treat”
Reviewed June 15, 2014 via mobile

Visited with some friends when up for a weekend, on the basis of the past reviews, they are not wrong.

It doesn't look very exciting from the outside but the aim of the restaurant is obviously to produce really good food of a really good quality. This is achieved and then some.

A clever menu and good service with really helpful and friendly staff
