“Off the Beaten Track!”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

If you want to see some of the most beautiful and most rugged parts of the wonderful Lakes District then Mountain Goat tours High Adventure Tour C is just the ticket! We could never have driven over some of the steep, narrow roads - nor even have found them. But Peter not only picked us up from our B & B, he took us over the Wrynose and Hardknott Passes to the remains of a Roman Fort, seeing the most breathtaking views along the way. He was very knowledgeable, both about the area and the history so we learnt a lot, too. Then, after lunch, we had a trip on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway in a miniature steam train, saw Wastwater, England's deepest lake and spent some time at the 14c Muncaster Castle where, as an owl fancier, I was in my element watching owls swoop and glide during the afternoon show in the beautiful garden. We made our way back via Coniston Water and Peter dropped us all off at our respective places of lodging. We saw so much that we could never have managed alone - the majesty, the bleakness, the beauty of this sublime area. Highly recommended.

“Great way to enjoy the views without driving”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

Having visited the Lake District many years ago, I wanted to enjoy the views, etc., rather than having to drive. Mountain Goat Tours certainly takes care of that! We took 2 of their day tours, Tour A, The Ten Lakes and Tour C, The High Adventure Tour. Both were an excellent way to see different parts of the area without the need to watch the road all the time. Tour A's guide, Peter was informative but I felt drove a little too fast for the comfort of the passengers. Tour C's guide, Malcolm, was excellent. He kept up a running but very informative commentary all day, putting in many little anecdotes. he had clearly done his research and kept it up to date. My wife and I would thoroughly recommend these tours to anyone who is visiting this area as being both hassle free and interesting. They even pick you up outside your door in the local area another plus.

“A great day out.”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed the High Adventure Tour. Bob, our guide, was first class, very friendly and helpful and provided very interesting commentary throughout the day. The tour took a lot in and we would highly recommend this tour as a way of visiting a less-explored area of the Lakes. The scenery was superb, drove over some high passes, had a trip on a little train and visited Muncaster Castle where we were given a talk and bird display by the Owl Trust. The meal stop was also very good - an atmospheric country pub with a good choice of sandwiches etc and real ales.

“nice, interesting tour”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

We joined the tour B. It was very nice and interesting. Our driver Peter is very kind, and we really enjoyed the tour. We visited the castle, Hill Top, Hawkshead, and the Coniston Water. It took about 5 hours in the afternoon. Hope to joing the different tour as well as this tour next time.

“Great way to see Lake District without having to drive yourself”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

Navigating the small roads in the UK is tough, especially in the Lake District. Mountain Goat was able to take that completely out of my hands so I was able to take in the marvelous views. I went on the Beatrix Potter's Favourite Countryside Tour, which was the shortest of the standard tours. We made several stops, including Beatrix Potter's house, Hawkshead and a short cruise on one of the lakes. We were able to have lunch in Hawkshead, which is a very quaint town. While it was a bit gray and rainy that day, that did not take away from the lovely views. Our driver was very personable and knowledgable. All that and I was picked up only a few doors away from where I was staying in Ambleside. Mountain Goat tours gives you the best of the Lake District.
