“Knit me a spoon !”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

We have been to this restaurant a few times and as ever enjoyed the atmosphere and the lovely fresh food. I felt compelled to review again this time not just because we had a wonderful time but because we have never laughed so much at the people on the other table and who have apparently also reviewed ! When the young man announced his soup spoon was too sharp i thought my friend was going to fall of their chair laughing i had to listen in to be sure i heard correctly. Sure enough the man got up and rifled through the drawer to find one that was not presumably quite as deadly lol I have to say this bizzare behaviour was handled beautifully by the owner i am not so sure i would have been so patient by now we admit to eavesdropping and why wouldnt we! and not to disappoint having said she enjoyed her meal the partner of the spoonphobic thought she should tell the owner how her husband cooked his new potatoes and that she liked them like that which rather begged the question why eat out then if you are only interested in one taste lol ! In any event we all liked our veg and potatoes which were perfectly cooked and very tasty as was all our food and will definately be returning not least to see if they can provide woollen spoons lol

“Top of the shop”
Reviewed May 5, 2013 via mobile

Was impressed with this bistro so much we went back the following night, something I never do. Windamere is full it seems, of hotels, Chinese and Indian restaurants and it was a pleasant surprise to find this little number selling quality food at reasonable prices. The only point lost was the vegetables served on the first night were going cold as if they'd been stood to long, it was border line shall we send them back but decided against it. The following night was Saturday night over a bank holiday and although a lot busier the food was spot on. Love to go back next year.

“Positives are Friendly staff & service was good”
Reviewed May 4, 2013 via mobile

The menu was fairly limited. I had pâté to start which was good. My husband had mushroom soup which was ok. The soup spoon was sharp edged & the desert spoon replacement was not much better. My meal was Char grilled chicken in garlic, mushroom and cream sauce (not so mushroom or creamy). My husband had beef cobbler which was nice. Did not like the veg Its appearance was poor as all were almost the same colour. The potatoes were oven cooked in onions. They were undercooked & onion taste was strong. Not a great review I know I'm hoping the owner reads this & makes a few alterations. I would say charge a little more and tweak these things I pointed out.
New potatoes in butter & chives or roast potatoes roasted in butter & rosemary, also broccoli to add more colour & more cream in the chicken sauce. Everything else keep doing the same.

“Great place to eat”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

Came here after our hosts at our guest house Gail and Steve recommended it. We was not dissapointed! Had the 2 course meal which I think cost us 12.95. I chose the lamb broth to start then had Cumberland sausage with mash and fresh veg, both courses was very delicious and well
Cooked. We have eaten at many places across the lake district and for the price the quality of food could not be beaten here, can't wait to go back again. Wayne
