I had a half-lobster and my wife had whiting fish -- both of which were excellent. We arrived on a Sunday night, did not make a reservation, and were given their last table at 7:00 p.m. This is one of the finer restaurants in Windermere and highly recommended by our innkeeper. We are very glad we chose it.

We had a lovely meal at this restaurant. Turned up relatively late without a booking but was accommodated for immediately even though it was very busy. The food is excellent, i recommend the scallops for starters! Don't be fooled by 'coffee house' written on the outside it is very much a restaurant in the evening.

The sign on the door said open till 1130pm. Looked busy inside but was told by two members of staff that they were closed...at 830pm. ENOUGH SAID!

We booked a table for Francine`s, because it did look busy and the reviews prior to our visit looked good also.
We arrived in good time and were shown to our table, asked if we would like a drink ( we ordered beer and water ) and given time to select our choices.
The restaurant was fairly busy and people were being turned away at the door which should be a good sign.
Our starters arrived in good time and to be fair were very good. I had soup which was Carrot/ Coriander and Chilli , which was nice and hot, tasty with plenty of crusty bread. My wife ordered the smooth chicken liver parfait, which she really enjoyed.
Whilst eating our starters, we decided to order a bottle of Rioja as we decided that it would go nicely with our mains of Pot roasted Lamb shank.
The time between courses is always going to be contentious, what is an expected period of time ? Some people will not want too long... so we began to look at our watches after around fifteen minutes or so. The mains arrived after a wait of about 30 minutes.. at the time no one apologised or explained that there may be a wait..
When the mains eventually arrived, I asked the waitress for our bottle of Rioja, which i`d ordered 35 minutes earlier, to which it was commented " Oh, did you order wine"..
The wine did arrive shortly after and the food was very good and the Rioja complemented the lamb very well. ( N.B. to the staff ) We may even have had a second bottle if the first had arrived in time !
The cost of our meal was around £60, and I would recommend Francine's to those who visit the area.
The manager did apologise for the wait and for the mix up with the wine , at the end of the evening. There does seem to be a little complacency that the diners will just turn up at Francine`s, I would suggest that a bit more effort should be made by the staff to make the `Whole `experience as memorable as the food.Should have been excellent on the review but the service let it down.

We had booked ahead, on recommendation from our b&b as we were arriving late on a Saturday evening. So pleased we did - lovely atmosphere, amazing food; beautifully presented. I loved the seafood casserole - gorgeous sauce and full of prawns, clams, mussels & topped with sea bream and langoustines. My partner is allergic to seafood but enjoyed his snails, followed by pig on a plate, which he loved! The free canapés to start are a nice touch. Would definitely return.
