“The Perfect Place to base your Lake District Holiday!”
Reviewed July 7, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

East Byre is the perfect home from home for those who like their creature comforts when away from the nest! It's very easy to reach along surprisingly good roads, just 10 mins from Penrith and that very handy Aldi on the motorway junction. The village has no shop but the pub is literally 2 minutes walk away and was very welcoming. (They cooked a meal for us even though they had just closed the kitchen for the night after we arrived very late due to an accident on the M6.)
There is parking for 2 cars and excellent Wi-Fi (My grown up children can cope with wilderness walks but God forbid they can't catch up with the Net when they get back!)
Everything is spacious and light inside, bathrooms are immaculate with wonderful "rainforest-style" shower heads. We tried the large free standing bath as well which is amazing.
The kitchen area had everything we needed for breakfast and most days' supper (lunch out!) and we were impressed with the level of supplies- salt and pepper grinders, milk, tea and coffee together with biccies. apple juice and chocs on arrival.
Everything you could need has been supplied-tea towels, wiping cloths, detergent, dishwasher tabs, saving my usual packing of a kitchen supplies box. There was also laundry tabs (both Bio and not-this level of attention!) and softener for the washing machine which we used in order to reduce the amount of dirty laundry coming back. There is a shared industrial size tumble dryer in the barn across the courtyard and each of the rental properties has a lockable store for bikes etc. together with storage and drying racks for wet weather gear and boots which is generously sized. We were lucky enough not to need this facility but as frequent visitors to the Lakes, we know how useful it could be!
The living space accommodated four large adults with no difficulty and a great deal of comfort and the little patio area outside the French doors was lovely and cool at night when it's fairy lights came on. Extra bonus- going out of the courtyard to be greeted by cows mooing at us!
We visited Vindolanda and Hadrian's Wall, Aira Force, Keswick, Kendal and as far South as Ambleside all on mostly excellent roads from Skelton.
The photos on the listing are very representative of the property.
The owners are wonderfully helpful and posted left behind items to us so promptly that they actually arrived at our home before we did! (Stopped off in Manchester on the way home!)
Total delight to stay here, excellent value and would recommend to anyone.

“Best of old and new in a lovely part of the world.”

We, 4 adults and two kids, stayed at East Byre during the Easter break and it was ideal. A lovely old stone building, but new and modern inside. The cottage was always warm and we especially liked the underfloor heating.

The cottage was wonderfully equipped and everything had been thought of. It's also deceivingly large inside and at no point did we feel as though there were 6 of us staying there.

We used our break to travel around the lakes and visited Keswick, Penrith, Windermere, Grasmere, Coniston and many more. All are within easy reach of East Byre.

Jane was extremely helpful and accommodating throughout and I would recommend any property owned/managed by Jane.

A lovely place in a lovely part of the world, which I intend to visit again.

“Beautiful cottage the pictures do not do justice, i would recommend to all”
Reviewed April 5, 2014 for a stay in April 2014

I have recently returned from a 3 day stay at this cottage and to say i was overwhelmed by the cottage on arrival would be an understatement !! The cottage had everything you could need for a self catering holiday, the size of the rooms were great and the large bath tub that can fit two people is a very nice touch, The open planned kitchen, dining/lounge is great for meals and entertaining. Myself and 3 others stayed here and would stay again and are planning to in the summer, The cottage is located in a small village called Skelton, the village is very quiet and holds one pub which the staff are very friendly and prices are reasonable. The nearest shops are in Penrith which is a 7 mile drive away, I would say that you need to drive to get around easily. You will find everything you need there from the post office to Morrisons. I would also say to visit Rookin farm for an action packed day of fun from clay pigeon shooting to quad biking.
