We chose this Guesthouse as a group of cyclists who needed a safe place to keep the bikes over night. Upon our arrival the owner did seem a bit frosty. However once we broke through the ice he was lovely and very helpful. We ended up really liking him.

He was very helpful and let us use the kitchen facilities to make a huge lunch for the cyclists. We really did take over the kitchen and he was absolutly brilliant about it. As we were a big group we ended up having the place to our selves. We were made to feel welcome to move about the place as we wished.

If you have the time to give the owner a bit of time to grow on you then this is definately the place for you. The location is wonderful and their is a lovely pub down the road that serves very good food.

My husband and I were travelling from Wales to Scotland on holiday, with our two small (very well behaved) dogs.

We had decided to break the journey about half way and decided on Penrith. We chose the White House Experience because it is dog friendly - which was important to us.

We found the B&B very easily and loved the setting. We had a double room overlooking the gardens which were very nice. Our room was large enough for us, very clean and the bed really comfortable. We will definitely stay there again if we travel that way again.

Only downside was at breakfast - no individual tables just one long one which meant we had to sit with other guests (strangers) to eat; which I found very uncomfortable.

Pleasant enough welcome on arrival, although the owner had apparently forgotten on receiving the booking that he was due out early the next morning, necessitating an early departure. Very cramped and dated single room, compensated by the airy and pleasant bathroom - although this did not have a fixed or enclosed shower, a surprise and dissapointment. Room way over-priced, shoudl be £20. Breakfast poor and rushed - almost crisp bacon, tinned tomatoes and poor choice all round. Living and dining rooms could do with modernising.

Family room 3 lacking in character and is cramped. Poor ensuite facility with hand held shower over bath and little hot water for 1 use. Heating went off soon after arrival.
Poor tv reception.
No evening meal available as advertised and appeared to be a one-man show.On arrival breakfast order taken, full English not as on web site, tin tomatoes,no black pudding or fried bread. Cereals in tupperware and no selection of juices. All guests at one long table.Photo on web of dining room not actual.
Whilst location is good it is seriously overpriced and over-rated.
Overall an experience is one to be missed!

I booked this guest house for its location as it is close to Penrith ( which is where I needed to be ) but in a lovely quiet village just a couple of miles away . The grounds are large and laid mostly to lawns. They could do with a bit of TLC though as they are quite neglected. My first impressions were not good and proved to be right. The public areas of this guest house are very old fashioned and tired looking, although fairly clean.
I was not impressed by the owners at all, they were very offhand and did not give me the impression at all that they were pleased to see me.
As I was was working in the area I was hoping to have an evening meal on my arrival as this is advertised on every site I have looked at , I even saw a review saying how good the meals are ,this was not so apparently they no longer can provide evening meals. I had to visit a local pub which although was good it was very expensive.
Breakfast was not bad , but I was limited to having breakfast only between a half hour window as that is the only time these people will prepare it.
My room was Ok but again very old fashioned and in need of a serious dose of updating.
I was very dissapointed with this guest house

A friendly stay in a nice enough place. Well worth a visit if you are
passing through Penrith. Built on lovely gardens and excellently maintained it feels like home from home. Service was fantastic with a
personal touch.
