“White Lovely!”
Reviewed July 18, 2011

I have to say that the name 'White House Experience' that I booked for was not entirely promising but we needed a dog friendly hotel near Penrith and the options were not many it seemed.

The hotel itself was a very pleasant surprise - the owners only having taken over in January it seems that some of the listings websites had not been updated with the new photographs and details.

Very clean and unfussy decor and great library/lounge area for relaxation with friends after a day of walking/shopping. Breakfast is good and serving times far more flexible than many B&B's. The hotel is also close to a great gastropub, The George and Dragon.

Friendly host is very willing to assist with directions and local attraction details. We would be very happy to return here.

Just stayed one night, to go to a family party, but would have happily spent a longer break at this very comfortable bed and breakfast. It is in gardens in a countryside village. Very handy for Penrith and links to the Lakes. We stayed in the triple room which was spacious, clean and well-equipped, though the bathroom was a bit tired. Worth it to stay somewhere with character, though. Breakfast was delicious and served with a smile by a friendly mother and daughter team.

We stayed here on the last night of a weeks holiday. The Whitehouse is a very old farmhouse which has undergone a complete makeover. It is very bright and comfortable, particulary the beds . The only thing we didn't like was the one long table for breakfast If we happen to be in this area again we will definitely stay here.

A very clean & well maintained home. This old farm house has been tastefully modernised.
The owner is a jovial & friendly character & we all enjoyed very much our short stopover.

We chose this Guesthouse as a group of cyclists who needed a safe place to keep the bikes over night. Upon our arrival the owner did seem a bit frosty. However once we broke through the ice he was lovely and very helpful. We ended up really liking him.

He was very helpful and let us use the kitchen facilities to make a huge lunch for the cyclists. We really did take over the kitchen and he was absolutly brilliant about it. As we were a big group we ended up having the place to our selves. We were made to feel welcome to move about the place as we wished.

If you have the time to give the owner a bit of time to grow on you then this is definately the place for you. The location is wonderful and their is a lovely pub down the road that serves very good food.

My husband and I were travelling from Wales to Scotland on holiday, with our two small (very well behaved) dogs.

We had decided to break the journey about half way and decided on Penrith. We chose the White House Experience because it is dog friendly - which was important to us.

We found the B&B very easily and loved the setting. We had a double room overlooking the gardens which were very nice. Our room was large enough for us, very clean and the bed really comfortable. We will definitely stay there again if we travel that way again.

Only downside was at breakfast - no individual tables just one long one which meant we had to sit with other guests (strangers) to eat; which I found very uncomfortable.
