“The perfect place to stop.”
Reviewed March 7, 2014

The Bridge is situated on the A66,about 7 miles after leaving the M6. We first stopped last summer en route to Hull for a ferry, and in the past few months it has become a regular stop off on trips to and from Yorkshire. It has never disappointed. It is pristine clean and very tastefully decorated. Food both at breakfast and lunch is excellent, and very reasonably priced for the quality provided. It is owned by a young couple, Louise and Matthew, and has just completed its first year trading. They and their staff are very friendly and welcoming. Louise and Matthew have obviously invested heavily in their restaurant, personally as much as financially. They are obviously committed to seeking out high quality local suppliers. You get the impression it is a labour of love, and they are justly proud of it.
There could be no better place to stop!

“Tip Top Quality”
Reviewed March 7, 2014

We stopped off at the Bridge on our way through to the lakes along the A66. It looks nice from the outside, so we popped in expecting a reasonable lunch but how wrong we were. There is a warm & friendly welcome and the service is excellent.

If you just want a quick sandwich & scone, this is not the usual place to stop. This is high end for a Bistro and the menu choice is first class. I had the pulled duck sandwich (who's taste & quality are far from what you would expect). I was going Mmmmmmmmmm all the way through.

Highly recommended for food & service.

“A great find”
Reviewed March 2, 2014

We'd driven past several times, but this weekend decided to stop for breakfast. The food was lovely (the nicest breakfast I've had in ages) and the service couldn't have been friendlier. In fact, we enjoyed it so much, we were back for lunch today. Think this will now be the regular stop on trips down the A1

“Lovely bistro. Great food. Excellent service.”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

We stopped off here for lunch just today.
It is just off the A66 and has plenty of parking around the back.
We walked in and were warmly welcomed into the warmth of the bistro by a lovely young lady who was our waitress for our visit.
There were about 5 tables occupied on our arrival and a few others came in as well when we were there.

We were shown to a table near the window and were left to pursue the menu at our own leisure.
We had been reading a few reviews on here and checked the online menu out over the past few days so had a rough idea of what we may have.

We ordered Artisan bread to share {£3) which came nicely presented with butter and two dips.
Two different types of tasty bread and plenty at that.
After that my OH had the Burger with Apple & Celeriac Coleslaw and skinny fries (£9.50) it came in a nice bun and he said the meat was brilliant in it.
I had the Vietnamese Chicken Sandwich (£7) which was panko crumbed chicken breast, pickled vegetables and chilli mayonnaise, it was fabulous.

For afters we had the most wonderful Pistachio Chocolate Brownie that came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream that was on a crumble.
It had to be the best pudd I have had for many a year.
I would go back for just that alone it was so good.
The other pudd was the Rhubarb Eton Mess, which again was good, but that brownie will take some beating.
We heard a lady on a nearby table say her dessert was the best she had ever had too!

This place is clean and pristine in all areas of it including the toilets.
It is decorated in a very nice way as well and all the cutlery, plates, glasses etc were top notch.
The young lady who served us was very bright and breezy and knowledgeable about the place and the menu, an great asset to the place.

Our bill which included a very good bottle of French Sauvignon Blanc came to £49, no 'optional' service charge is added I am please to say but as we were very happy with our service we tipped up.

A lovely place, we will return again but on an evening next time.
Highly recommended to all.

“The Oasis in the Desert of the A66”
Reviewed February 25, 2014

For excellent food, coffee and a great selection of all things nice to eat and drink The Bridge Bistro is the place to be. There is always a very warm welcome awaiting you and everything is delivered with splendid service. The internal décor is comfortable, modern but understated and adds to the overall ambience. Thank you Matthew and Louise for creating such a relaxing place to enjoy good food (and some treats). We are looking forward to seeing you again on our travels to and from England.
