Unfortunately we only managed to visit the Shepherds Inn once on our UK visit this year but were not disappointed. We had booked a table for Sunday lunch. Service continues to be first class and there's a good selection of ales etc at the bar.
We all ordered the roast beef which soon arrived. There was one change from last year ( confirmed by checking photographs). This time all the meal was plated up whereas last year, the vegetables were served in a separate dish. I prefer that but can understand why the change has been made. Nothing wrong with the quality of the food or the quantity!
My wish made last year that a cheese board be included with the other dishes was granted! However, it was a little disappointing and considering it was described on the menu as a cheese and biscuit selection with pickles, to be presented with a plate with only four Carrs water biscuits was a bit of a let down. Nothing wrong with the cheeses but overpriced at £6. Great that it's available but a rethink is required.
Nevertheless, the meal overall was very good and good value for money and it was our intention to go for another meal before we returned home but unfortunately this didn't prove possible but we are visiting the UK again in December!

Great service and good food. Pub all newly decorated and appears to be done to high quality. Very welcoming and helpful staff. Menu is good and prices very reasonable. Great stop off on the way home from the lakes as most pubs we had tried didn't serve food all day and they do here. Nice beer garden and lovely toilets!

We visited this pub last weekend and were generally pleased with the meal and the service. My vegetarian girlfriend had the vegetable and squash tarte and the upside down fruit pie for a dessert. She was disappointed that the base was the same for both dishes and felt the dessert to be" a bit of a cop out". The slow cooked brisket was really tasty and well presented, as was the chicken on mushroom mash.
The restaurant staff, although young, were polite and helpful.
On the whole good value and a pleasant experience but needs tweaking to take it to the next level.Would recommend and visit again

We called into the Shepherds recently on the way to Penrith. It's a pleasant pub on the village green. We both had the steak pie with home made chips. The pie was very good with crisp short crust pastry, lean and tasty beef and rich gravy. The chips were excellent and the vegetables nicely cooked. There is a varied menu if pie is not your thing.
