This is a fantastic all round family run hotel. Rooms are very clean and spacious. Food is excellent and the staff are superb. Would Highly recommend this hotel to all my friends, family and anybody else who will listen. Can't be all that bad if superstars like Barry Manilow have had it recommended to him!!!!

The Agrucultural Hotel was not really good enough for me. There were some major issues with rooms and food.

Room:
Chunky pine furniture, heavily patterned carpet (disguising stains?) synthetic duvet with very flat old pillows. Mattress old and worn (you could feel the springs) that was two or three inches short of fitting the bed frame.

Bathroom:
Thick towels (plus!), powerful shower (another plus), grubby shaver light.

Food:
I have only ever had deep fried sausages from a burger van and was surprised to see them served with the breakfast along with deep fried mushrooms.

Beer:
Very good local ales

I found general cleanliness and conditions poor with grime on doors and threadbare carpets in places. It reminded me of standard typical to a seaside guest house in the 90s - unfortunately the rate (at £70 p/n for single occupancy of a double room) do not match this dated hotel.

A most enjoyable meal very reasonable and a few pints of quality real ale
We went to the Aggy as the locals call it to celebrate the completion of the c to c
140mile bike challenge across the UK. It could not have been better
Even Barry Manilow, don't ask me how, visited not so long ago, he has an associate/ friend
who likes or lives/lived in the area ! are all the staff

I stayed at the Agricultural Hotel on a business trip to the Lakes as it was close to the M6 and the Penrith rail station. For the same price as a Travellodge on the M6 you get a warm family welcome, a decent meal, a roaring log fire and a full english breakfast. Whilst it may not be as modern as a Travellodge it's character is a great change from the usual chain hotels that I stay at on business. I would readily recommend a stay there and hope to visit again soon.
