“Great location, good facilities”

We stayed for 3 nights whilst visiting family in the area and found the travelodge to be friendly, clean and ideal location for what we wanted. The Little Chef was expensive next door for breakfast, but we found Cranston's foodhall and cafe less than a mile away a much better and cheaper option. By booking in advance it made the trip a very good deal for the 3 of us.

When you have cycled the 55 miles from Whitehaven to Penrith through the rain you are so relieved to arrive at your intended accommodation. Surprisingly the management of this Travelodge allow cycles to be taken into the rooms (as long as they are clean) so this helps as far as security goes. I'm sure however that if the design think tank allied to Travelodge actually attached this issue as an item at their next board meeting they might be able to come up with a space in every travelodge that would accommodate bikes without them having to be in the room with the occupants. Nevertheless a thank you to Travelodge for not turning us away and giving us ground floor rooms so as to avoid the stairs and difficult to open doors. I was cycling with two friends so we had booked two rooms at this venue. Martin, the Manager was due to go off duty at 20.00 and kindly offered us a lift at the end of his shift to a country inn in the village of Stainton just over a mile away. After a quick shower and a change of clothes we took up the offer and ended up at the Kings Arms for a beer and a meal. Back to the Travelodge and this review. The place has recently been renovated so is not tired looking like a lot of other Travelodges. A few observations however. The pillows are too firm; there should be a choice. There is no shower gel or shampoo as you would expect there to be. Water can be obtained from the machine in Reception but at a cost of £1.50 a small plastic bottle. Above all though, it is continuously frustrating when booking Travelodges to suddenly find that days later the price has dropped or there is a promotion which indicates a price differential of up to £25 a room and more. This prompts you into making a cancellation and rebooking in order to get the lower price. It is however irritating and should not be necessary. Travelodge - please just offer all rooms at the same low price.

Dear Michael A, we are pleased to learn that overall you were happy with your stay. Although we do not provide toiletries in the rooms, customers have the option to purchase toiletries from vending machines at reception should they need to, this allows us to continue to offer great rates in great locations.

My mum and I are great fans of Travelodge due to the ability to stay for a bargain and the hotels being dog friendly. We have stayed in this Travelodge twice and since our last visit it has undergone a full refurbishment. The rooms are now modernised with new beds, furniture and bathroom refit. Would definitely recommend.

there wasn't a plug provided for the wash basin in the bathroom, and when we asked for one, we were told they had all been removed for health and safety reasons!!!!!!!!!!!
so take your own basin plug if you want to wash your face or have a wet shave.
and bizarrely after the wash basin plug incident, our hand towels were removed from our room ( maybe as some kind of punishment for complaining) LOL
Hotel also had some kind of noisy pump running through the night, interrupting sleep.
bathroom looked tired as well.
if this had been a £20.00 a night room - its okay (ish)
but at £70.00 a night - its not acceptable
there's nicer hotels in the area for that kind of money and you would get breakfast included as well.
so our advice
stay some where nicer for the same price

Dear Gill C, we are sorry to learn that you were unable to get a good night sleep due to internal noise. We can confirm that wash basin plugs have not been removed for health and safety reasons, we do provide plugs in our hotels and these should be replaced if they go missing. All customer feedback is invaluable to us and we will ensure that our Hotel Management team are made aware of the comments that you have made so they are able to address these issues.

This hotel is good value for money. The rooms did not carry sound, despite the hotel being full with lots of families. Clean and spacious room. The hotel has recently been refurbished so the bathroom was clean and bright. There were problems with the hot water running cold (four of us needed consecutive showers and the water ran cold after one person!) We asked for extra towels which were promptly brought to our room. There is no nice restaurant for breakfast, except little chef next door. However this wasn't a problem for us as we went to Keswick (20 minutes away) where there is ample choice of lovely places to eat. The manager was very efficient and I would definitely go back. The location is ideal for good access to the beautiful Northern Lake District. The added bonus was we had a heat wave whilst we were there!

So easy to find and park. Lovely room (no view) and large bathroom. When checking in we were given a list of suggested restaurants and found this very helpful. Breakfast in the on-site Little Chef was ideal and so much nicer than the motorway service area that I had originally planned to use. The site is not flat and we had to use the car to get from the room to the Little Chef as it was too steep for a wheelchair - but the Travelodge website did warn of a possible difficulty.

Travelling with 2 children and a baby, we were given a friendly and considerate greeting at reception by Martyn.
The room was very clean and comfortable and all the essentials you would expect from a Travelodge were there. The bed was very comfortable and generous. Shower was great.
Good size room for a family.
Only downside was that the room was a little stuffy, but then it was August.
Well located for a stop off on our trip to Scotland.
Glad to have somewhere to eat right next door; Little Chef is not top of my list of places to eat (!), but at least it's family friendly and the staff were nice.
