“Excellent guide & tour”
Reviewed July 17, 2012

My group of 4 found Andy Jackson of ShowmeCumbria via Trip Advisor. We had a single day in which to see the highlights of the truly beautiful Lake District, and Andy made the most of it. A native of the area, he knew of off the beaten track spots as well as the don't-miss sights. About a week before our arrival, he asked about our interests so he could customize a tour, which he did most successfully. Andy is available by the day or the hour; we hired him for 5 hours, and extended it to 6 as we were enjoying ourselves so much.

Most guide books speak of the beautiful hikes in the region; we were concerned that since we are not hikers, we'd miss out. Andy made sure that we didn't. As a free service, he also photographs you and the sights, compiles the photos on a disc, and sends it to your home after the trip. (He even returned a sweater (to the US) that we left behind!) We got way more than our money's worth from this knowledgeable and personable guide.

“fantastic tour guide”
Reviewed March 23, 2012

Andy gave us a fantastic full day tour of the Lake District! He was friendly, prompt and very knowledgeable about the area. He was very flexible and accommodated our particular interests and requests showing us out of the way places only a native would be aware of. We had a wonderful day and I would highly recommend him. I would definitely hire him for our next trip.

“Excellent guided tour of the Lake District”
Reviewed December 13, 2011

Andy came promptly at 9:00am to our time-share in near Penrith with his van (he had a couple with him from Singapore) and we started the tour of a number of places in the Lake District, Such as the Windemere and Coniston Lakes, etc. The sights in the lake District are so numerous that even though distances are not great, it is impossible to cover the whole area in even a week. As one of our interests is history, Andy showed us both Celtic and Roman sites in the area. Andy was very helpful and informative that we engaged him again for a second day. This time we saw the Buttermere area and where slate (used for building materials such as roofs, etc) was quarried. Andy made sure we saw areas that were definitely off the usual tourist path. As a consequence, we can highly recommend Andy as helpful and knowledgeable a tour guide for the Lake District.

“Brilliant tour. Looking forward to coming back soon.”
Reviewed November 18, 2011

Having a free morning in Keswick whilst attending a conference I was delighted to discover ShowmeCumbriaTours.
Andy obligingly adapted his planned tour to fit in with my timescale and took a small group of us on a very enjoyable tour of the northern Lakes. His knowledge of the area and his fascinating stories totally enhanced the trip.
Being a keen amateur photographer I was eager to get some good images and Andy knew all the best places to be. He, a much better photographer, took some excellent shots which he sent us after the trip...an excellent 'after sales service'.
The tour was the highlight of my stay in the Lake District; I could never have found such places on my own or learnt so much about them.
My only disappointment was that my time there was limited. It has however fuelled my determination to go back as soon as possible and the first contact will be with Andy.

“See the REAL Lake District with Andy!”
Reviewed November 12, 2011

Andy Jackson provides both bespoke and half day tours for groups up to 6 people. He is friendly, warm, prompt and very knowledgable. We engaged him for a tour and got to see the many lakes, fells and valleys from great vantage points that were reached via narrow roads with hardly any signposting. Andy knows all the roads in this district like the back of his hand. He also has many nuggets of history and information of the area that kept us entertained. The tour included visits to Martindale Valley, Wray Castle and introduced us to Grasmere's delicious gingerbread. Though we initially decided to rent a car for the next day, we decided after our tour to engage Andy for another day. The second day, we explored the Northern Lakes which included Surprise View and Honister Pass. We were so glad we engaged Andy again because we were sure that if we had rented a car to explore the area, we would not have found many of the places that he showed us. After the tours, Andy presented us with a CD of the photographs that he had taken throughout our journey. This was a nice touch and provided a lovely end to our visit to the Lake District.
