Great place! Didn't realise it was so far out till we arrived ! Very few shops but lots of cows and green pasture.our hosts Pat and Mark were fantastic. I don't think there was anything they didn't know about the area! They were always available to answer any question. Dinner at The Shepherd's Inn is certainly a must. The coffee at this inn is sensational. We rated it as the best in England!! This place is certainly a great base for visiting The Lake District and other areas around. Fantastic walks at your back door. Certainly a highlight of our trip!

“Relaxing end to an exciting family break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2011 for a stay in July 2011

I spent a weekend here with my wife and children (boy of 5 and girl of 7). We stayed at the Barn which was fun for the kids due to it's open plan layout (and amazingly soft grass outside!). The Cottage itself was very comfortable and well equipped with games, videos, utensils etc.
This was meant to be a relaxing end to a break which consisted of a 4 day stay at nearby Center Parcs however due to the amount of information provided by Pat & Mark about the surrounding area we felt we had to take some time out and explore part of the Eden Valley. A boat trip on Ullswater Lake is a must as is a walk to Lacey's Caves and Long Meg (with a picnic).

“Lovely place to stay”

Very warm and welcoming hosts. The barn was well equipped with everything that we needed. It had lots of fantastic information about the surrounding areas and had directions which really helped us out when looking for places to go.Plenty of toys and videos kept in there to keep our son entertained when relaxing after a busy day. Also being able to take our dogs there was great and the free bottle of wine was certainly a bonus.

“Better than Hypnotherapy”

A quiet and tranquil retreat. The walks and the views in and around the cottage are second to none. The accommodation was perfect for the location, and Mark and Pat the owners made us feel at home. All the local pubs are dog and child friendly.Situated in the Eden Valley between Alston and Penrith and a stone throwing machine away from Hadrian' s Wall.
Wonderful.!!
