a combination of great Lake District scenery, wonderful roses and traditional borders and a welcoming estate made for a lovely afternoon. We will try to come back during the original Marmalade Festival - its amazing what one can make into marmalade :). The tea room was excellent and very good value.

We planned to visit Dalemain but looking on the websites events we saw a car show was there the time we visited the Lakes so we combined our visit to the house with this meaning it combined the price and wasn't as expensive, the gardens are nice and have some unusual plants and flowers and I could imagine spending more time there however we were short on time, the house tour is nice and the mice houses are a cute touch its quite short but still gives you an insight into the history of the house.

I only had a short time to explore the garden but what a delight. I could have spent an hour standing in the herb garden and breathing in.

Don't bother visitng, unless they pay more attention to the place, and put the price down. We visited and was first of all suprised that the award winning gardens were unkept, and certainly not award winning.

Also paying £20 for two of us to walk around an unkept garden and see a small part of the house was a rip-off. The house was closed, and said it would re-open at 13:30. Yet it didn't open until nearer 13:45.

We wont be returning.

Ps. what's with the marmalade fascination!

I was really disappointed with this place and felt rightly royally ripped off.

Firstly its expensive to get in for very little to see. The gardens really are not spectacular at all and we desperately tried to make the most of it but could have been in and out within 45 minutes. There are signs everywhere of what you cant do and where you cant go for heavens sake. What about a nice "Welcome" sign.

Not to get down we decided to go and have a hot drink where the coffee was foul and a small tea pot where you only got 1 cup. With a piece of cake each that fleeced us for more hard earned cash which simply wasn't worth it.

Thank god we didn't pay to go into the house and we wont return.
