Met a group of friends here before a weekend near ullswater , as handy for Penrith station and the m6. Despite being a Friday lunchtime, the pub was very quiet although cosy with a roaring log burner. Didn't find the lady behind the bar particularly friendly or welcoming although the food choice was really good. Portion sizes were large , with a good choice of imaginative sandwiches served on wooden boards and main meals including fish and chips, pies etc which were a cut above usual pub food. Worth a visit if in the area.

We recently had a night out at the Cross Keys Inn on the recommendation of a friend. We were not disappointed, the place is lovely, great finish, great feal, real fire, cosy and very friendly. We enjoyed it so much we returned the following week for the Steak night, again really good, can't believe how good it was for just £9.95. The staff were very accommodating and enjoyed a good chat. We are going back again in two weeks - can't wait.

Booked into this restaurant after it was recommended by our guest house host! All the staff were very friendly, the choice of food good and the choices made were lovely. Very reasonable prices and would certainly go again if in the area.

Decided on here based on locality and reviews whilst staying overnight in Penrith. Wanted somewhere that was just pub grub and many other places were fancy which isn't our thing. Lovely little pub downstairs and gorgeous dining area upstairs with a really good atmosphere. Sadly, the menu was limited with only one vegetarian option which included Stilton and brie, hate the stuff but had no choice when I enquired so went for it hoping it would not be too prominent. Starter was lovely, even the Brie but the main was spoiled by the Stilton so I had to pick through it. Obviously this is personal choice but another option would have made a huge difference. I thought my husband had enjoyed his but he was being polite. His was tasteless and the chips weren't homemade but frozen, so all in all, he said he could have made the same at home. We aren't people who complain but when eating out, we like to feel we have eaten something homemade and enjoyed it. A few minor adjustments and this place would be lovely. To end, the young lad serving was lovely and made you feel very welcome.

great choice of beers, above average pub food, great wine selection too.
We often go in a large group and are always looked after very well.
