Met a group of friends here before a weekend near ullswater , as handy for Penrith station and the m6. Despite being a Friday lunchtime, the pub was very quiet although cosy with a roaring log burner. Didn't find the lady behind the bar particularly friendly or welcoming although the food choice was really good. Portion sizes were large , with a good choice of imaginative sandwiches served on wooden boards and main meals including fish and chips, pies etc which were a cut above usual pub food. Worth a visit if in the area.
