“Very Spacious and Welcoming”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

Visited here on 5th May 2013 - my first visit to Penrith. Very conveniently able to park right outside the hotel. It was very convenient that they served me tea even though I wasn't an overnight guest at the hotel - I needed a hot drink to set me up for my visit. Very spacious seating area; polite friendly staff. Also, plenty of leaflets and information about local attractions - very useful for travellers intending to see points of interest in the town. Next time I'm in Penrith - will definitely be returning!!

Stopped overnight at George Penrith. Old Victorian Hotel full of character which has been maintained with refurbishment. Had a large room which had been refurbished very nicely and in keeping with the old Hotel however it was at the back overlooking the grubby backyard of the Hotel in need of painting and tidying up. The food in the nice small dining room was no more than average pub grub with large portions and my wife had to send her main course back they did deduct it off the bill however it was disappointing. Good enough for an overnight but not for a longer holiday stay.

Room Tip: Front of hotel or the back for quietness

What a lovely stay we had at the George; a birthday present for myself and Partner. Hotel is steeped in history and felt like we were in someones front room! Staff on reception so welcoming, as were the staff in the restaurant (Ballroom) And Dappers Bar, General atmosphere is relaxed/informal/comfortable. Food was excellent; lots of variety and great value for money (3 courses) if you stay Dinner/B&B.Piping hot, huge portions, well presented. Breakfast great too! Rooms spacious, beds comfy, great corner bath, refurbed room (number 33) An excellent base for exploring the beautiful scenery, closest lake being ullswater. Will recommend and hopefully come back again!

Having lived in Penrith several years ago it was one of the hotels I always wanted to stop in. I now live near York and visit my daughter on a regular basis for a girly weekend so booked The George back in February for x2 nights for us. I then re booked after that stay for the end of April and again we had a fantastic time! Staff are very helpful, especially John who was brilliant on my weekend here last week. I stopped in room 26 on both occasions, all newly refurbished and lovely.

Didn't really eat a proper meal here, we had snacks from the bar.... The pavlova is a must. It is yummy!

Breakfast also very good. The hotel has a lovely feel to it and I would not hesitate to keep going back (just not sure when my next visit will be)

The only downside and it is quite silly is the size of the car park. I have a mini so it's not too bad, however I would panic with a bigger car as it isn't that big, however the lovely John did offer to move his for me when I returned from my spa evening at centre parcs! What a gent!

For me I would totally recommend this hotel (even if we were perhaps the youngest people stopping there)

Room Tip: There isn't a pool but the screen wouldn't let me empty the selection

Stayed for 2 nights in end Apr13. Although building was very old, hotel had recently been refurbished to a good standard. Food was good and service friendly. Hotel has free wi-fi for guests and a small car park.
Would definatly stay again if we were in the area.

Stayed for 2 nights with breakfast. Overall stay was good with great food and lovely staff. The hotel is old and floors were uneven on some corners, but cannot fault otherwise. Me and my friends has noticed that they don't have a lift but a winding staircase with an old chair lift. It is easily accessible to anything as it is in the heart of city centre.
