We had a wonderful evening at the George hotel. We attended the Titanic murder mystery evening and it was superb. The ballroom was the perfect setting and the whole evening ran so smoothly. Looking forward to the next one, which I believe is Fawlty towers evening. If the actors are half as good we are in for a real fun evening. Well done The George Hotel.

I wouldn't recommend staying at this hotel. The room was below average compared with others I have stayed at in the area and the food was poor and expensive. The waitress who served us was not very friendly and I thought the overall atmosphere in the lounge was rather stuffy and uncomfortable. The hotel was noisy at night. A pleasant area to visit, but not at this hotel.

Booked a 2 night break at the George and from moment arrived until leaving was impressed. Paid £10 per night extra for superior room (Room 6) and was worth every penny. Beautifully appointed with loads of room, huge bathroom and most comfortable bed in any hotel we have stayed in.

The staff couldn't be more friendly or helpful and bothe veneing meal and breakfast were of very high standard. Huge secure car park at the rear only added to the satisfaction.

Wouls recommend and stay again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Upgrade to Superior Room. Although at front of hotel overlooking the Road, it is very quiet at night...

Just back from a two-night stay booked through Travelzoo.
It was a well-priced break with "extras" such as tea and scones on arrival.
Unfortunately, the scones were hard and "doughy". We left most of them, which was a shame after a long drive.
The room was ok but the bed was very uncomfortable: we practically felt every spring.
The evening meal was excellent.
We enjoyed every course.
Breakfasts were also good.
The car park at the rear of the hotel can be tricky to find because of the one-way system so phone the hotel for directions before you go.
Despite its ideal location for Ullswater etc., would we stay again?
Probably not.

Room Tip: Book a room at the back of the hotel, especially at weekends, because it can get noisy at night.

Having made the choice to use this hotel for a week-end break for ourselves and 2 other couples, we had a fantastic time. Great traditional hotel, spotless bedrooms, fantastic bathroom. great staff, and great food. A credit to the owners. To you all, thanks for a great week-end. See you again.

This hotel is right in the centre of town. I had booked a single club room but it was much more than that. It was quite spacious with a queen size bed, 3 drawer chest beside the bed and a 4 drawer dressing table. Flat screen tv, trouser press and tea and coffee making facilities. the bathroom was lovely and bright with a corner bath and bathrobe too. Room was spotlessly clean with good decor throughout. There was no view from the window to talk of but that did not bother me. Breakfast was good with a good variety. I had my evening meal in the bar (not really a bar more a lounge area) rather than the restaurant. The food was brilliant as was the service and the attitude of the waiter was first class. All the hotel staff I encountered were very good, and helpful.
I loved this hotel and will definitely revisit.

Room Tip: Its an old building and there are lots of creaky floorboards but they did not interfere with my slee...
