Just returned from a wet easter weekend at Gill Head Farm. Pod was brilliant kept us warm and dry but toilet and shower facilities below the standard experienced at other campsites with pods. Showers not very clean, water cool which only ran for a short time. The childrens play area is a great way to keep the kids entertained and the communal area is a brilliant idea.

We stayed in the pods for 2 night, very big, they do have their own heater but it didnt really warm our pod up and we left it on for hours while we went out, i would advise anyone to take their own heater one that blows out heat. The communal showers and toilets were good. The communal kitchen, living area was not so good-the kitchen didnt have running water and was very dirty with bird droppings on the sinks, the living area was also quite dirty but i understand it would probably be alot better in the summer. The pods themselves are brilliant and fun to stay in with great views and only about 10 minutes away from the main shopping area. Staff are lovely and also have lovely animals out to look at. A park is also on the site with caravans and a B&B. I would stay again.

My colleague and I have now stopped for the 2nd time at the b&b at Gill Head. It really is as warm and comfortable as all the other reviews say. We have been staying here whilst working in Penrith and to come home at night on a dark evening to all the lights on and the fire blazing is wonderful. Yes the breakfast's are truly wonderful. I would have no hesitation in recommending Amanda, mum and family to anyone. You will not be disappointed!!

We stayed in one of the camping pods on the farm. We had a lovely time. The added security of being able to lock a door was appreciated and the option of a take away tea and croissant in the morning is really clever. It was good walking distance to Blencathra with a bus link into Keswick. Buses are very expensive but you can't really blame Gill Head for that now can you?

The shower block had lovely hot showers but not for those with a spider phobia. The view from our pod was amazing and the added extras like the pedestal for a barbecue, electric sockets and lights were really useful. However, the mattress provided in the pod - whilst a nice touch, was really uncomfortable and a few beasties had been caught in the light bulbs.

We love camping - but felt very sorry for those people in tents as we sat very snuggly in our pod. The owners were very welcoming and the local pub has a great menu.

All in all very good value and an enjoyable time.

Having chosen possibly the worst weekend(Hurricane Katia blowing strongly) to start cycling the C2C we were delighted to finally arrive at this lovely farmhouse. Amanda made us most welcome, the rooms were lovely and the luxury of a bath and nice gels etc delightful. Amanda offered to transport us to and from the local pub, as we had pre-booked a meal there, which we accepted with grateful thanks. The breakfast was super- especially the bowl of fresh fruit salad. The packed lunch was excellent. All round we found this very good value for money.

Great place just off the main road from Penrith to Keswick (about halfway between them). It's really quiet - the perfect place for snuggling up for a good night's sleep before the next day's walking. Everything is here. There's a really cosy louge with a wood burining stove, a kitchen where guests can rustle up their own dinner or take advantage of the host's pre-prepared meals, even towels specially for wet and muddy dogs. Breakfasts to die for too. Only downside was the lack of a proper shower in our room, but it was great to be able to laze in a proper bath after a day on the hills.

This was the first time we have used a camping pod - usually we camp with our tent but because the great british weather has been such a wash out this year we decided to use a camping pod instead, we tried several places in cumbria but unfortunately all were fully booked until October but Gill Head Farm at Troutbeck were more than helpful in accommodating my family with the last available small camping pod. Just big enough for the four of us it offered welcome dry and warm shelter from the September elements, built with natural products and well insulated including heating, lighting and electric points it gave us a great base. Facilities on the site include toilets and showers, they are basic but very clean and adequate, a play area for the little ones, a log cabin with microwave, kettle and tv and laundry rooms, as we stayed only for two nights we managed without the tv, kettle and laundry only using the shower facilities in the mornings.
There are two types of pod in two locations on site, we were in an older smaller pod away from the main area so it was really quiet and close to the play area for the little ones.
The owners were very friendly, we ordered take away teas and bacon rolls for the mornings in advance and they were ready as requested.
All in all a very pleasant and friendly stay that I would recommend to all who like a basic weekend away but with the advantage of staying warm and cosy in a camping pod.

Room Tip: Book well in advance to avoid missing the best pods
