We have been coming to the blue swallow for a number of years now , and always found it very welcoming warm and friendly. Breakfast is perfect, good choices for different tastes, and have been tret like one of the family. Good value for money and only use others when the blue swallow is fully booked.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent

The night here was a bit of a mixed bag - on one hand the accommodation was well located, clean and of general good quality - plus there was safe cycle storage. However, my mum and I did feel that that the owner was a little "precious" about the rooms.

Cycling is a dirty business and if you accommodate cyclists it helps to appreciate this. We had cycled from Keswick on a dry and sunny day in September and had arrived late in the afternoon. The owner greeted us at the door and made a big thing about whether we were wearing cleats and how they cause damage (we weren't) and then wanted to stop me sitting down in a chair because my legs might be dirty (small patch of misc. gunge). I hate to think what his reaction would have been if the day had been wet! In the morning breakfast was good although being served in a damp smelling basement was slightly off-putting.

I don't want to say this property was bad - it wasn't - however, the welcome was less than warm and we did feel that we were being encouraged to leave in the morning. I would recommend it for those without cycles but hand on heart as cyclists we did feel a bit uncomfortable.

A fantastic B&B. Exceptionally clean throughout and from the minute you walk in you are well looked after. Friendly and helpful hosts who couldn't do enought to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable. Recommendations for a place to eat was made and reservation made on our behalf. What great food it was too!
Breakfast was very good for preparation for a day cycling, fresh home cooked food, and home made preserves......delicious.
Cheery and welcoming hosts without a doubt. Thank you for a great stay.

Penrith is a great base from which to explore the lakes especially if you are using public transport. Main line train station near town centre. Busses available to the most well known lakes and mountains bases.
Blue Swallow gets your day off to a fantastic start with a first class beautifully cooked breakfast. Not only a wide range of teas and cereals but fresh fruit salad too.
My single room No.7 was at back. Just a little car door banging at bed time but otherwise very quiet ( it is the town). Very clean, well equipped and comfortable.
I booked later than I had hoped to and was lucky to find room here at a very competitive price.
There are interesting independent shops and good places to eat in the evening.
Don't hesitate!

Room Tip: It may be quieter at the rear where I was as front is on quite a busy road. For a single I think n...

I stayed mid-week, paying £50 for a single en-suite with breakfast. TBH everything felt just a bit more like a £35-£40 B&B.

Just for example, there was three(!) chest-of-drawers and a chair in the room, but no desk you could sit at to use with a laptop. Also, there was a wi-fi named after the B&B, but no security code I could find in the B&B guide in the room (and it was getting late to call the owner to ask).

The owner was very friendly and the breakfast service was quick. All in all pleasant enough, but I left a wee bit disappointed, wondering why it was rated 4*.

We stayed here on the first night of our C2C ride. The owners were pleasant and welcoming, and the room was to a very high standard for a guest house. Breakfast was excellent. It isn't 5* boutique, but it completely surpassed our expectations.

My husband and I stayed for one night on the 11th August. The room was lovely and clean, the owners were very helpful and chatty, a lovely couple! The breakfast was superb, juicy fresh fruit salad, yoghurt and a tasty freshly cooked full English! We will definitelyreturn here when we're in the area. Well done!!
