We were looking for an overnight stop on the way to Glasgow and then a return visit for a few days on our way back South. Jim and Tine could not have been more welcoming and after a long drive the gorgeous bathroom (complete with towelling robes) and the excellent beds saw us well rested and ready to tackle the drive North. But first there was the breakfast. Tine's homemade granola is amazing, there is a choice of home baed breads and Jams to accompany her wonderfully cooked breakfast (she does something to scrambled egg that is quite fabulous). We couldn't wait to get back to Lowthwaite a few days later and enjoyed Tine's excellent home cooked dinner menu. A treat not to be missed but not on offer every day. Jim gave us excellent advice for a walk that was just right for our level. The North Lakes are fabulous - and so is Lowthwaite B&B. We will be back again and again.

We stayed at Lowthwaite B&B on our way up to Scotland, the location was spot on - close enough to Penrith and the M6 not to be too much of a detour, but situated in peaceful countryside to make our overnight stop feel truly relaxing and special. Jim gave us a very warm welcome, and is very knowledgable about the local area, hill walking and some of the spots we planned to visit once up in Scotland. He recommended a short local walk for us by the B&B, up a short steep hill, but offering excellent views of the surrounding Lakes.

The room (Blencathra) was very comfortable - tea and muffins offered on arrival, a big, spotless bathroom with excellent shower, and a huge comfortable bed from Tanzania. We had a very good night's sleep as the B&B is the only building in the hamlet so there was no outside noise.

The organic buffet breakfast was delicious; organic bread, homemade jams, fruit etc and a hearty full english breakfast made with local produce.

We would not hesitate to stay here again, in fact, i think i would find an excuse to stay here again! Would highly recommend.

Room Tip: All rooms are individual - we stayed in Blencathra, great layout and fantastic bed, i'm sure the...

Beautiful room with exceptional en suite facilities. Possibly one of the best breakfast choices you could wish for. However, most importantly, our hosts were kind, friendly and very knowledgeable about the whole area. We would heartilly recommend Lowthwaite without fail. Also, if you like birds (the feathered variety), then you'll enjoy the view.

Friendly and helpful owners. The breakfasts are amazing. In a peaceful setting. Everything was wonderful! Especially the homemade muffins. If you're lucky enough to stay on one of the nights they do dinner then make sure you have it. Ours was 3 courses and delicious. We will be staying here again next time we are in the Lake District.

Our family of five stayed at the B&B and we could not have wished for a better experience. Our boisterous children were welcomed and our housts, Jim and Tine, were spectacularly friendly and helpful. We had such a great time we are already considering when we might be able to return. Great location and, my word, the breakfasts Tine puts on are amazing.

Room Tip: Tine can provide packed lunches if you order them in advance.

Stayed one night on our way home from Scotland. Big mistake - should have booked at least another two nights.

We chose the Blencathra room at the northern end of the cottage. This is a quirky mini apartment with bed on the ground floor and seating (& TV) above with bathroom. WC is on the ground floor - handy at night! Chosen because it sounded unusual, we were not disappointed.

Also unusual, for a B&B, is that hostess Tine cooks evening meals some nights and we were lucky; the venison casserole was simply superb as was the following profiterole.

Breakfast was great, too, with a wide range of wholesome cereals and fruit as well as a full, traditional, cooked meal.

For such an out of the way location it was very easy to find.

Very highly recommended as a base for visiting the area's attractions, walking or just a quiet break.

I think this is probably is the best B&B in Cumbria. We've stayed with Jim and Tine three times in 14 months and it really is a pleasure to spend time at Lowthwaite.

The location is so peaceful even in August. The rooms are lovely, and the breakfasts and dinners are simply superb. Why anyone wants to have dinner elsewhere, beats me. Tine's home cooked food is wonderful - make sure you sample it.

The walking nearby is great and you don't need your car once you are there.

Might be too remote for some but if you like great accommodation in quiet surroundings, this is the place to stay. Can't wait for our next visit.
