Out of the way location but still has stunning views. Pretty house, well set up rooms, good linen, down duvet, great shower and hot water. Food was wonderful - Tine cooked dinner just for me - the only problem was choosing from their menus as all looked worth trying but I can vouch for the smoked mackerel pate, venison casserole and fruit crumble with perfect custard. Breakfast perfect too, spoiled for choice again. Tine and Jim really helpful, I only wish there had been longer to stay there and find out more about the area. The garden room is perfect - your own front door, terrace and garden gate, with birds feeding and red squirrels too. Got to mention their wonderful tables from Tanzania made from the wood of old dhows. They really deserve their 5 stars.

This was our second stay at Louthwaite. The first time was as a couple and this time we returned with our 10 month old baby.

We love it at Louthwaite, it was the perfect first holiday as a family. Louthwaite is a very special place, the building and decoration are unique and beautiful. Jim and Tine provide a really warm welcome and keep very high standards. They go the extra mile to give us a great stay, and we really appreciate the little touches, like muffins on arrival and fresh milk always available for tea!

We would highly recommend Louthwaite for young families. Jim and Tine provided a travel cot and a high chair - so we didn't need to pack these. They even went so far as to provide some toys in the room (which our baby, Leo, loved playing with) and a bowl and spoon at breakfast.

Jim gave us lots of information on walking routes, and we had a couple of great days out, following routes that he'd recommended.

Breakfast was yummy and so was the packed lunch. We also had a delicious dinner at Louthwaite during our stay, and it was really great to be able to eat in one night in such a beautiful setting.

Room Tip: The 2 rooms we've stayed in were beautiful

Once again had a fabulous stay at Lowthwaite B&B. Hardly a surprise though as the hosts, Tine and Jim, certainly go above and beyone to make your stay personable and thoroughly enjoyable. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and of a good size. Hairdryers provided and shower water pressure is great. This time stayed in the Helvellyn room. It was a good size room for three adults sharing. Towels and sheets lovely. Plenty of tea and coffee provided in rooms, and on the first night we also had delicious muffins waiting too.

Breakfast is a yummy affair with plenty on offer. There's a choice of about 7 different cooked options, from the normal fully cooked breakfast down to french toast and blueberry pancakes. If you're there for more than one night, you can work through the menu. Additionally there is a buffet of selections of homemade breads, muffins, jams and different mueslis and granolas. All in all after eating a huge delicious breakfast, you don't really need to eat much for the rest of the day! As it was one of the party’s birthday, Tine also made a scrumptious lemon victoria sponge cake for her!

The location is great if you enjoy being outside of a town and in a rural setting surrounded by stunning scenery and bleating lambs. It's a quick five minute drive to Ullswater and 15-20 minutes into Keswick. Jim shares his wealth of knowledge of the area and makes for the perfect resource for planning your day trips. Jim provided us with a very detailed map of the area which was very beneficial to our trips.

All in all I would highly recommend this B&B.

Far and away this is the most welcoming "home away from home" we have experienced. The setting is pastoral and relaxing. Tine's cooking, baking and presentation is 5 plus stars at the very least ! Jim's hiking suggestions and the ready availability of Lowthwaite's library were greatly appreciated. Their daughters, Kristina and Rebecca, are refreshing and capable young girls and clearly an integral part of the family team at Lowthwaite. The renovation of this old farm house has been done with care, skill and great attention to historic detail. This was a hiking holiday for us and the very best hike was just down the road from Lowthwaite. We can't say enough positive about our time at Lowthwaite. It more than met our expectations. Thank you Jim, Tine, Kristina and Rebecca. Dick and Gail Hattan, Fairbanks, Alaska

The accommodation, the hosts - including their two charming daughters - and the food were all wonderful. Tine and Jim are efficient, warm and friendly and full of information about the surrounding countryside. Tine's food, both breakfasts and dinners, was of the highest standard. The birds and red squirrels outside our window were one more treat in a very special stay.

Room Tip: The Garden Room is charming and the cheapest!

From our memorable experience last year we returned and stayed longer this time.

Completely family friendly, immaculate rooms, idyllic location, truly wonderful food, Jim and Tine are perfect hosts and fabulous, quieter walking nearby. We were lucky enough to see a red squirrel outside the window of the breakfast room, which made the stay for our youngest daughter.

The stay was perfect in every way and Lowthwaite remains the best B&B we have ever experienced.
