Having stayed in several B&Bs in the lakes, the Lowthwaite really is the best i have found. It is in a lovely quiet spot at the foot of a small fell and someway from any major road. The room(Blencathra) is split level, with the bedroom downstairs and bathroom/sitting area above. It was spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, with quality linen and towels. Plenty of tea/coffee and toiletries. I had one evening meal which was delicious - Tine is a brilliant cook and the homemade muffins, bread and jams are excellent. The breakfasts are slighty different to the usual 'full english and toast', which is an option if you wish. There are cooked vegetarian choices which i also enjoyed and the cereal/bread/yoghurt/juice are also top quality. Clearly a lot of effort goes into food sourcing, preparation and presentation at the Lowthwaite. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay and would definitely return.

We spent our first evening in the Lake District at this wonderful B&B last weekend. Jim and Tine were the perfect hosts, offering us advice on places to visit, a relaxed surrounding and the most wonderful breakfast that we've ever been offered on our travels. The room was comfortable, spacious and clean, and offered some perfect views of the District's hills and red squirrel population. We will certainly recommend the house to both friends and family, and will be sure to stay there again ourselves in future.

Jim, Tine and the girls are the perfect hosts. Food is wonderful, the accomodation is first class, and the location is fantastic. We first stayed with Jim and Tine in November 2010 and have just returned for a second visit in April 2011. It is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of day to day life to recharge your batteries. Jim and Tine cannot do enough for you. I highly recommend this B&B.

We have just returned from a lovely short break to the Lake District which was made so wonderful by our stay at this B& B. The hospitality was outstanding - we were made to feel so welcome by Jim and Tine! The breakfasts were simply to die for- particularly the scrambled eggs and delicious home made breads!
The room was extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated. Special touches included home made muffins left in our room, lovely locally produced toilettries and soft white towelling robes!

The setting is idyllic and the perfect getaway. We had a fantastic stay, and we are already looking foward to returning next year!!!

This was our third stay at Lowthwaite B&B, and we are already looking forward to our next visit! The setting is idyliic and our two children enjoyed paddling in the stream and playing on the swings. Jim, Tine and their two girls made us all so very welcome - nothing is too much trouble. The food is fantastic, the rooms comfortable and tasteful and the local knowledge for walking is excellent.

We were greeting by an amazing spread - afternoon tea which consisted of a victoria sponge cake, scones, muffins, tea and coffee. We also decided to stay for dinner which was the most delicious steak and ale pies - one each - they were huge, filled with delicious meat and veg. The decor was really stylish and simple- we hate anything chintzy so it was right up our street. Nice white walls, white sheets, spotless bathroom with locally made soaps/bath salts/lotions... and breakfast was a lovely assortment of homemade granola, breads, fruits, and cooked breakfast as well.

This was our second visit. See my earlier review. This time we were 8 and took every room.

Returning to Lowthwaite was like coming home. Tine and Jim work very hard to make you feel important and special.

Reassuringly the breakfasts were superb. We also stayed for dinner. All three courses were superb and excellent value and the Steak and Ale Pie was to die for. Perfect after a day on the mountains.

Tine also provided our packed lunches saving us time and money. What sumptuous luxury to sit in the shadow of Great Gable eating salmon and cream cheese sandwiches on Tine's homemade bread knowing there's still a muffin to come.

I don't view this as a B&B anymore. Tine and Jim are more akin to friends that we stay with who have a wonderful home to share with us.

We feel like part of the family and their two girls are charming. Try their muffins.... the children are challenging Tine on this front and their raspberry muffins were superb.

We will be back in the autumn.
