“Brilliant carvery”
Reviewed September 5, 2012 via mobile

Tried this restaurant on a Sunday as I had been recommended the carvery by a relative and I was not disappointed. One of the best I have had. Unfortunately I am not able to eat off the main menu due to food intolerances which is a shame.

Needed a hotel near to the North Eastern part of lakes to stay before a full day walking the district and came across this beauty. Booked in advance on-line for a very reasonable price compared to others available in similar area and so glad we did. Very friendly welcome by bar staff and immediatly shown to our room for the night. First impressions good, clean and comfortable, ideal for a short stay. Room 5, double bed ensuite (shower only, no bath). TV/DVD combi in room, tea/coffee making facilities. Bed was very comfortable

Had evening meal in the restaurant, excellent. Very reasonable priced menu (The Lamb Henry was fantastic). Nice cosy bar area, few locals in when we were there, very good and friendly atmosphere. After a very good nights sleep we enjoyed an extremely tasty breakfast (Choice of cereals, fruit juice and a full english with toast, scrummy).
Overall extremely satisfied with our stay and will certainly hope to return in the not too distant future, pity we don't live nearer just to go for a meal again in the restaurant. Give it a go you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Only five rooms at the hotel so early booking advisable.

We recently stayed 2 nights in the Herdwick Penruddick . Let me begin with the positives. The breakfast was good , and generous , the public loos in the bar were clean, the manager owner and staff were friendly and the beer was beyond reproach !! However the room was tiny ( although the double bed was huge and comfortable ) but our bathroom need cleaning properly !! Fungus and hairs in the shower are not appealing !! Such a shame because it is friendly wee inn in a great place !

Wile staying in the area, we went to the Hrdwick Inn for dinner. What an absolute delight! The interior of the inn was warm and inviting, and the staff welcoming.
The menu had a wide selection of meal options, and we opted for the roast of the day (having when traveling for some weeks this was one meal we had not been able to find in many place). The serving was generous, and the meal well presented.
The desert menu had a wide range to suit most palates, and we were both tempted.
A very pleasant meal in a delightful inn, and well recommended.

What a find, after researching the internet for an hotel in the Lakes, I decided to drop off at the Herdwick Inn, Penruddock, for lunch while on a journey further north. Situated a few minutes from the M6 just off the A66, lunch was superb and a cheeky request to view a room led me to book 3 rooms for a group of friends. The rooms are clean and tidy, the beds comfortable and new tTVs, the food is of a high standard with a good choice, the staff are excellent and nothing is any trouble. I look forward to visiting the Herdwick again.

Had lunch at Herdwick Inn Penruddock with my wife on 24th April 2012. The weather was not very pleasant outside but there was lots of 'sunshine' inside. We were greeted by the landlady who was very welcoming and also greeted by a super roaring fire. The whole place was what you would expect from a country inn but which sadly is often missing. The food was also of a high standard, its definitely pub food but that was why we were there. The home cooked ham with VERY locally laid eggs and chips was outstanding. The additional veg was superfluous but that's country hospitality. My wife said her fish cakes were also very good. The coffee wasn't the best. However, a lovely place to stop for lunch, and I have no reason to doubt that dinner and the overnight accommodation will be of an any less standard'
