“Cosy, welcoming pub. Delicious food!”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Loved this pub. Read reviews on Trip Advisor and booked for Easter Sunday four days earlier. They managed to fit 8 of us in at 1.45pm and we arrived feeling starving after climbing Catbells. Although there was a wait for the food to be brought out, that was definitely forgotten once we saw it!
Fantastic roast for us adults and the children were delighted to find Pork Ribs on the starters which they had with chunky chips. Desserts delicious and we booked after to go back for our final night of our week away.
Again, not disappointed. The Lakeland Beef and Cumberland Ale Pie was thoroughly enjoyed and the Fish Pie went down well too. Lovely selection of freshly cooked vegetables.
Staff friendly and attentive despite the business of the restaurant. All in all, two relaxing and very enjoyable visits and fantastic value for good home cooking of quality.

“Fantastic Freshly Prepared Food”
Reviewed April 6, 2013 via mobile

Had a lovely meal here, the place was really busy, we did have a wait for the food, which my really hungry active toddler didn't agree with!
But the food did make up for the wait, the Lamb Tagine was to die for!
The pub is really charming with a lovely homely atmosphere, the staff were really friendly, we will definatly return, (hopefully without the kids lol) if your in Keswick defiantly worth a visit, also worth booking in advance x

“A warm welcome”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

We ate here twice this week. Apart from a mess up on the timing of our booking for the second evening, which was resolved quite quickly with good grace, we were very happy on both occasions. Really crowded as it was Easter week, the staff were worked pretty hard but they coped well with good humour. The menu is fairly basic pub restaurant although quite extensive. The whitebait were excellently cooked, the Cumberland Sausage was a very full plate, the Haddock special an unusual combination of fish and risotto. Pricing fairly average compared to southern rates, high for further north but reasonable for Keswick.

“Excellent food!”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Had a great meal out on Good Friday. It was incredibly busy but we took this as a good sign (we had booked in advance). The service was excellent and the food equally good. My husband had the steak and ale pie and I had the cumberland sausage and mash - both were delicious! It was fantastic value for money for the quality of the food that we ate. Would definately recommend to anyone in the local area.

“Nice food”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

We visited on Good Friday and our party of 9 were not able to book and had to use the bar area which is first come first served. This was fine, a little cramped with the tables pushed together, but this didn't spoil anything. Menu was good and seemed to cater for everyone. i was hoping for local lamb with it being easter which was nit on offer which was a shane. I opted for the Cumberland sausage which was local and tasted lovely.

Free wifi was good for the kids iPads and the taster of 3 real ale's was a hit. I'd recommend this pub but get there early to eat as its popular. This has to be a sign of a good pub!
