“Fantastic food”
Reviewed November 12, 2012 via mobile

We had a evening meal on Monday, 11 November 2012. The food was really good and not too expensive. The portions were a good size. I was going to have the cheeseboard but my main course filled me up. I would definitely recommend :-)

“Best superior pub grub in the area”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

This place is an absolute gem. The portions are huge, the chips are homemade, the beer's good and I could sit all night in front of the roaring fire. We've eaten here three times now and never been disappointed. The huge gammon steak with fried eggs and chips is awesome, as is the steak pie, but there's so much choice and it's all very reasonable. Put it this way, even my mother really likes it . . .

“Little Gem!”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

Stopped off in Keswick on the way back from Carlisle ....(business but took scenic route) and stumbled across The Pheasant...

What a find....a lovely warm (real fire was roaring) cosy pub with a warm welcome ..staff were friendly and the food was homemade.....I had the Steak pie with chips (which were stunning as were the red cabbage and shallot gravy).....,even on a mid week lunch the place was relatively busy (word of warning...might be worth booking in advance if you intend to eat )

Little details matter to me.....the place was clean (even in the corners) and the staff seemed relaxed which all add to a better experience for the visitor.....well done.......will I be back...yes!

“Best pub grub in Keswick”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

Just back from another great week in Keswick. As previously, ate several times at The Pheasant. Yet again, it didn't disappoint. Food included duck, lamb, scampi, fish pie and steak. Each meal was really good, accompanied by wonderfully cooked veg. Beer is excellent and the staff very friendly. Will be back again when we're next over.

“Cosy with lovely, wholesome food”
Reviewed November 2, 2012

We called in one wet and windy weekday afternoon and ate in the bar from the lunch menu. The fire was roaring away which was very welcome to tired and soggy walkers and there are hooks under the bar to hang wet coats to dry. We had the cumberland sausage on a bed of chive mash and the fish pie. Both were hot, beautifully presented and generously portioned. The vegetables that accompanied them were also hot and there were four different kinds presented on the plate so something for everyone. Both dishes were fantastic, with the very meaty sausage making a perfect foil for the creamy chive-flecked mash whilst the fish pie (you could choose to have it cheese-topped or not) had chunks of white fish in with a creamy sauce and smooth mash on top. There were several cask ales with an additional guest beer, Thatcher's cider and, I think, a stout. The service was excellent, friendly and helpful and the pub itself is interesting with caricatures of local people adorning the place. There is also a restaurant section at the back, but we didn't visit this. It must get busy as several bookings were taken by phone during our meal and I heard the waitress say that they do two sittings at night, so I would advise booking to avoid disappointment. There was car parking outside and the toilets were immaculate and beautifully scented. Would I go again? Heck, yes! Reasonably priced at around £10 per dish and delicious, homely pub food. Didn't see the restaurant (evening) menu but if it is as good as the lunch time food then you won't be disappointed. Recommended.
