My husband and I stayed there in August 2012. It’s a lovely guest house. It’s run by a couple and they are very nice and helpful people. The guest house is very clean throughout. The bathrooms were modern and were super clean, the rooms were well furnished. Rooms and bathrooms are cleaned every day. The breakfast was absolutely delicious. They have very good choice for selection on their breakfast menu. The guest house is very close to bus station, roughly 3-4 minutes of walk. If we have to stay in Keswick again, we will definitely love to stay in Shemara. I would highly recommend this guest house.

My wife and I stayed here between Xmas and New Year for the second time this year, excellent as usual. Will be back again this year. Richard and Fon are top people. Great base for town centre, pubs and food /beer was great, weather no so good but as they say you pay yor money you take your choice with the Cumbrian weather.lol Got wet all three days strutting around the fells but who cares when you have a nice warm room and bath to come back to.

Room Tip: Room 4, has bath and is very large plus great view of Skiddaw

This was our 3rd New Year break at the Shemara, excellent again. We decided at short notice to go a day early and needed to change rooms. But Richard moved everything for us, thank you.
We cannot fault this guest house. It has recently been decorated and the en-suites updated. Everything is to a high standard. New items have been added to the breakfast menu.
The meal on New Years Eve was simply delicious. We have booked again for next new years eve. But we will be back before then. Love it.

Surprised not to see this rated higher up in the list of keswick B&Bs - difficult to imagine there are a lot which are better than here. Comfortable, well furnished rooms, good breakfasts (I didnt eat in, so cannot comment on the evening meals) and hosts who were friendly but not obtrusive. Recommended

I stayed here with a group of friends as part of a walking holiday. One of the group booked the accommodation and made an error, having us arrive a day earlier and leave a day earlier. When informed of the need to change the dates, Richard and Fon were helpfulness itself. We arrived on a Sunday to find everything ready. My room at the top of the house was a twin which I was sharing with one of my walking colleagues. I would have to say that space was at a premium but, as we were seldom in the room, it wasn't a real problem. The en suite bathroom was top quality. Breakfast in Shemara is a great experience, with a varied menu. At night, the dining room becomes a Thai restaurant ( Fon is Thai) and we ate there on one of the nights and found the food excellent. Previous reviewers have found the advisory signs irritating but, in my opinion they make great sense. I'm only disappointed that it is necessary to put them up. There isn't much parking but a large car park is available across the road. I'd be delighted to stay there again

Room Tip: Don't share a room if you can avoid it, unless you are with your partner.

We can't comment on the hotel rooms, as we ate in the dining room based on the fabulous reviews on TA and our love of all asian food. Wow, what can we say, we had perhaps been put off in the past as it is part of the guest house, but really do not let this put you off. If you like fresh, home cooked Thai food, then you must try Fons cooking. The flavours are so fragrant and as dishes are freshly prepared, fon will make them to suit your palate. We can highly recommend the crab cakes, meat balls, jungle curry, seafood hot pot and sticky rice balls for dessert. As they don't have a drinks license, you can bring your favourite drinks with a small corkage charge applied. All staff were very welcoming and friendly, this will definitely become a firm favourite for us whenever we are in Keswick.

We booked the room online only hours before we turned up so i was expecting to have to show paperwork but Fon was ready with our room as soon as we arrived. The room was amazing. Spotlessly clean and very well equipped with everything we could need.
The choice for breakfast was amazing. The food was delicious and they couldn't have been more helpful or polite.
I would recommend this b&b and its close to the main street.

Room Tip: Room 4 has dual aspect.
