Obviously a very pretty lake but a road trip around the lake is underwhelming.
A boat trip would be the way to go

We drove down to Borrowdale and parked right at the Lakes edge. It was a sunny crisp winter day, lovely autumn colours, still water and snow topped hills. Breathtaking scenery and easy access for all levels and types of walkers including buggies. You can get a boat back to the main car park if you are too tired to walk back.

The road approach to Keswick looks down to Derwentwater and urges you on and to visit, drive from Keswick and follow signs for Buttermere and you will drive on the shoreline of the lake which just gives the most stunning of views - stop awhile at the car park and feed the ducks and enjoy the scenery.

Beautiful place so tranquil and peaceful. The views are stunning. Went when the autumn colours were at their best. Footpaths very good. Always have to visit when in the Lake District.

Derwent water is a great place to visit and I often run around the lake as part of marathon training. Its about 9 miles to do a circular route. The views of the surrounding mountains are superb and you can catch a boat at various points around the lake. Grange is a good place to stop for a coffee and a cake. Cat Bells is within easy reach as s Walla Crag
