My favourite Lake - big enough to be impressive, but small enough to walk around in half a day... and the walk is well worth it.

If you don't go all round you MUST walk out on Friar's Crag, a dolomite sill standing proud of the lake... one of the founding areas of the English National Trust and site of classic views down to Scawfell and across to Cat Bells.

Magical as the sun goes down....

East access from Keswick Lake Side Car Park (not cheap though) and a 5 minute walk into Keswick itself

Walkers can do a lovely 10-mile circuit of the lake, which may be accessed from the path that goes along the front of the Theatre. It's easy terrain on the whole. Refreshments may be had at Mary Mount Hotel, Nichol End Marina, or the Derwent Lodge at Portinscale.
It's possible to make the walk shorter by taking a ferry from one point of the lake's circumference to another - ferry timetables are available at the Tourist Info in Keswick, or in hotels.

Would recommend you get off to see the water fall not spectatular but still impressive and lovely all the same. For the price of the tickets it's a must do and see, the Lake is beautiful.
