We recently stayed at the Oakthwaite House and it was one of the highlights of our trip to the UK. David and Karen are perfect hosts. The room was excellent, well-equipped and maintained perfectly. There were many nice extra touches that we appreciated. David took time to help advise us about places to visit and walks that were nearby. They went above and beyond to make sure all of our needs were met and that we had an excellent experience. We would definitely choose Oakthwaite House again.

Stayed here a few times had never thought about the lake district for a break but arrived at oakthwaite and was greeted by David who is a lovely host and ever so helpful. The rooms are all stunning and maintained to very high standard and the breakfast choice is excellent. We were going walking and David is a keen hill walker who can suggest great walks for all levels of fitness. This experience has made us want to experience the lakes in greater depth and none better base to do this from than oakthwaite house.

We stayed at the Oakthwaite from 31.8.12 for 3 nights. It was has it appeared on the website: clean, comfortable, convenient and wonderful breakfasts! David and Karen are very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. We stayed in room 3 which was compact but it had everything we needed with some nice extra touches. I would recommend anyone wishing to stay in Keswick give the Oakthwaite a try, you will not be disappointed! We would not hesitate in booking a stay here again.

The Oakthwaithe House is located in an area with multiple Bed and Breakfasts and I am sure that many of them are lovely. However, what set the Oakthwaithe apart is David who is a wonderful host! He was friendly, helpful, informative and always willing to do whatever was necessary to make our stay pleasant. We were with another couple and stayed 2 nights in rooms 3 and 4. They are the smaller rooms but very comfortable with several added touches. The breakfasts were wonderful and the granola, eggy crumpets and the crepes are the best! We only met Karen when leaving but she was just as lovely. We would highly recommend the Oakthwwaithe house to anyone traveling to the Lake District.

Oakthwaite House B & B is conveniently located just a 5 minute walk from downtown Keswick and provides a nice base to explore the Lakes District. Our room (Super King) was large and clean but looked out on to the street with little in the way of a view. Breakfast choices were required the evening before but included additional options (smoothie, granola, bagel or potato waffles) to the standard fare of a British breakfast. Dave was very personable and informative and street parking was easy to find although quite full by late evening.

Of the eight different B & B's we visited during our stay in the UK, we rated this our 5th choice. Not as if there was anything wrong (and perhaps the fact that we couldn't get into the original Keswick B & B we desired since those owners were to be away on vacation tainted our view) but we found this and other B & Bs located in the middle of a city/town to lack the "change of pace" and seclusion we look for at the end of the day. Yes, the ability to walk to a restaurant or the lakefront was nice but we would just as well drive to these places and have more solitude at night. If you are looking to be "in the heart of the action" than don't hesitate to use Oakthwaite as your base.
.

Room Tip: Room 2 the SuperKing has ample room but a view out onto the street

We stayed at Oakthwaite House over May bank holiday and cannot praise it enough - the house is gorgeous with beautiful rooms, comfortable beds and great showers. Every single one of the breakfast options is terrific - if you don't want to climb mountains after this you're a hopeless case! The only thing at Oakthwaite to excel breakfast is David and Karen's hospitality, they could not have made us feel more welcome. This is by far the best B&B in the Lake District we have stayed at - can't wait to come back to Oakthwaite House again.

Thank you David & Karen, we hope to be back soon,
Juliane & Sam

What a fantastic B&B this was. We stayed for a couple of nights and we were initially stunned by how fresh and nice the room looked. The rooms are spotless, all the mod-cons are there and the shower room was new and really really good which is generally the thing B&Bs have trouble with.

The owners are lovely and very helpful, they are always keen to provide info on Keswick, the lakes, walking and everything else. The location is convenient (a few minutes walk from the market) if a bit unglamorous (yet another Keswick street full of B&Bs).

However what was really the highlight was the breakfast, there are tons of options but the important thing is that they are just delicious, the granola was simply the best I've ever had. If you are looking for a B&B in Keswick this is it.
