“Excellent B&B”
Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I stayed here mid February and found Allerdale House to be everything previous reviewers have said. A lovely warm welcome, attractive spotlessly clean room, and excellent breakfasts. Another plus is the off- road parking and only a short walk into Keswick.

Having seen reviews of Allerdale House, I had very high expectations. I was not disappointed in any way. Right from the start the experience was so much more than a run of the mill b&b. Warm welcome, beautiful room (number 1 is well worth asking for), superb food, egyptian cotton bedding, great location....oh and all Fairtrade tea and coffee. Absolutely nothing to complain about. I would recommend Allerdale House to anyone who wanted a friendly, civilised and comfortable stay in Keswick. I hope to return.

My boyfriend and I visited Allerdale House for a long weekend break in February. It was everything we could have asked for. Paul and Barbara are very welcoming – you feel like guests in their home. After being shown to our room by Barbara, we relaxed in the cosy living room with a pot of tea and some freshly made biscuits. Help was at hand if we needed when unloading the car. We stayed for 2 nights altogether. The morning Cumbrian breakfast, served by the charming Paul, was delicious, plentiful and not at all greasy. It set us up well for the day, and Paul was very friendly and chatty, offering advice of good places to go for beautiful views. The bedroom was prettily and newly decorated. Comfortable bed, complete with bathroom, desk, refreshments and large towels – we didn’t need anything else. Location is perfect – just a short stroll into historic Keswick, and private car parking is handy too. It was my first visit to the Lake District – I fell in love with the area and will definitely be returning!

Having not stayed in a b&b for many years we had no real idea what to expect although the excellent reviews left us optimistic. We weren't disappointed. Off road parking straight away was a bonus and Paul and Barbara made us feel at home as soon as we entered, providing tea, coffee and biscuits. Our booked room was being redecorated so we were upgraded for no extra cost to one of the larger doubles and it was lovely and spacious, with settee, great shower and a huge bed! Thoughtful touches such as providing bottles of mineral water make such a difference, along with free wifi and even a tray for muddy walking boots! Breakfast was substantial and good, setting us up for a day of Lakeland walking. Paul and Barbara pull off the trick of being attentive but discreet, leaving you to enjoy your stay but being available when you need them. The b&b is a lovely building, everything is clean and modern, is five minutes walk from Keswick centre and is a great base for the north Lakes. Look forward to going there again.

Thank you Paul and Barbara for a lovely 3 night stay. As a regular visitor to the area for the last 9 years, I have to say this is the most welcoming and comfortable B+B I have visited. The many little personal touches, the willingness to make you feel very welcome and the extensive local knowledge is something that marks this B+B as probably the most popular in Keswick. We also felt we were visiting friends during our stay and are already looking at when we can return in 2013.
