The Hotel is lovely and very well located just a few minutes walk from the shops and Derwent water. A few minutes walk in the other direction and you're heading up to Walla Crag.
Denise and Rod were great hosts, very helpful and informative and couldn't do enough to make our stay wonderful.
Our room was very spacious and well apointed and there were lots of useful niknaks in the room which added that special touch.
The breakfasts were fantastic and the choice incredible - never had such varied and tasty sausages - just wish I could have brought some home. I challenge anyone to leave the breakfast table hungry.
Absolutely wonderful and intend returning as soon as we are able, would recommend it without hesitation.

Denise and Rod made this a perfect trip, in fact they made it seem like we were visiting one of the family. Everything was 10 out of 10, lovely hot breakfasts, spotless rooms and always a friendly face - despite Denise almost breaking her ankle during our stay.
We can't wait to return to beautiful Keswick and go back to stay at Portland House even if it is just to see Denise hopping round the kitchen with her frying pan!

Stopped for 4 nights B&B in Keswick at The Portland Guest House and found Denise & Rodney to be very nice people .Nothing to much trouble if they could help.
The accomodation is of a high standard and the bedrooms are a good size.
Breakfast was a full selection of bacon, egg, black pudding, beans, tommatoes, mushrooms, waffles,+cereals, toast, fruit &yoghurt.

My Brother and I travelled with my Dad ( who is wheelchair bound) for a 2 night stay in Keswick. Rod and Denise were wonderful, friendly hosts and made us all feel very welcome. The ground floor twin bed room provided easy access to the breakfast room in the morning as they were both on the same level.
Breakfast was very good and we had a lovely weekend. Highly recommended.

We have just returned after spending 3 nights at Rod and Denise's superb guesthouse. We had the king-sized room which was huge, absolutely spotless and had everything we needed including a very comfortable bed and more. The location is perfect being only a 5 minute walk into town which made it very easy for us to visit the local pubs in the evening. We were recommended some superb walks - Latrigg being our favourite by far - and we were sent off each morning with a flask of coffee after a very delicious and hearty breakfast cooked to order. We would certainly recommend Portland House as Rod and Denise left us wanting for nothing.
