The Royal Oak at Keswick

Reviewed April 9, 2014

Me and my boyfriend stayed in this hotel in 2012. We needed somewhere to stay, it was 8pm and The Inn gave us a discounted room as it was so late in the day. The room was fantastic as well as the food in the bar. We returned to Keswick in 2014 and popped in for a drink. The bar is still a fanatic place to have a drink and spend the evening. The staff are friendly and although it was very quiet on a Wednesday evening it was still a lovely evening spent.

A pub with rooms in the town centre…..no parking. Stayed for b&b. The pub is undergoing improvements but expensive for what it is. Beware - some rooms have v low entrance doors…if you are over 5'6" tall, then duck, or remove half your head - as I did ! The most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in….the mattress must be the cheapest possible…and nothing special to write about re breakfast. Hopefully on the way up but still some way to go.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms with low entrance doors.

We've just returned from a 2 night anniversary stay at the inn.
We have had a brilliant weekend and already booked again but for 3 nights for next year.
The rooms were lovely and clean.
Fabulous food.
And most of all the staff were very welcoming, did what they could to ensure we enjoyed our stay.
A dog friendly hotel in the perfect location.

Booked at the Inn for a two night stay mid week. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed with helpful staff. Our room was clean with a good sized bathroom. Our dog was made welcome which is a real plus. The Food and beer were again very good, with decent, but not too large or small a portions. Excellent choice of beers. The manager was friendly and approachable, when asked about a possible road closure on a road we needed to use. He went found the information and came back to us. They are closing for a minor refurb which will tidy up the odd worn corner. Will definitely stay again.

We stayed in room 4, small but had everything we needed. I was worried about the noise from the pub and the street but we were not disturbed at all, in fact, on Saturday morning the market had been set up and we hadn't heard it at all! We had an evening meal at the pub which was great and very reasonably priced and the breakfasts were brilliant. The bar is very popular and has a great selection of ales and spirits. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. The Inn doesn't have parking but we were told where to go for free parking nearby. It is a dog friendly b&b and the bar has a jar of biscuits for canine patrons. A lovely touch! All in all The Inn is great quality. I would stay again and have recommended to friends already.
