Visited today as weather dictated what we were able to do, had heard about the museum but thought what on earth would a museum about pencils interest us but it wasn't too bad although expensive for what it offered. The staff were very good and knowledgable but wouldn't particularly recommend it.

I must admit that a visit to a pencil museum does not sound particularly enticing but it just shows how wrong you can be. This is a lovely museum and is full of interesting exhibits, such as the 'secret pencils' manufactured during World War 2 and the diamond encrusted pencil given to the Queen (one of only two in existence - the Queen has the other one!) We learned many interesting things about the origins of graphite mining and pencil manufacture - the amazing fact that graphite was once more valuable than gold, for example. The staff were very helpful and clearly knowledgeable and the shop has an extensive range of pencils and art equipment as well as a wide variety of books on sale. Well worth a visit.

Was a little disappointed with this little place. The parking was very expensive (you do get some of your parking money back inside the museum though), and then on top of the parking fee you have to pay to get in. We wouldn't have minded if we had gotten our monies worth, but we didn't. It is a very small place with lots of info about how the pencil came into being, and there are some lovely displays in there, but that was about it. We were in and out in about 20 minutes.

Cute little place, but overpriced.

I visited Keswick in October 2013 as part of a Contiki tour. Most of the group went to a high ropes course and a small group of us decided to visit the pencil museum. Long story short those of us that went to the musuem had a fantastic time and could not stop raving about how awesome the place is while the high ropes guys were disappointed in their outing. A trip to Keswick is not complete without seeing this amazing musuem.
