“Great walk ... here's some advice for the walk back”

We did Catbells twice, in successive weekends. An energetic walk with great views, achievable by even the non-athletic.

Some advice on the descent. The first time we continued over the summit and took a left path at the dip (where the path rises to the next peak). This is a sharp descent with much of the return journey along the road, and made for a tedious and unenjoyable walk back. The second time we simply turned around and retraced our steps back to the car ... and I would very definitly recommend this option.

Great walk close to Keswick, however found the start hard to find. Take care on the trail as its very steep and would be difficult to navigate for some people.

Used the boat to start the walk and used the route adopted by the locals, according to the boat lady. Ended up walking to the Ladore Hotel for an ale and a warm by the open fire - very posh but accepted muddy walkers, which was nice!

On a damp October day we took our 9 & 11 year olds in a loop over Catbells then back alongside the Eastern path.
Just the right amount of scrambling for the 9 year old, nice spirit amongst the many families doing the walk.

If you can manage it walk up here and enjoy the most spectacular scenery! This is an absolute gem of a spot- perhaps one of Englands finest views. Highly recommended!!
