The Kings Arms Hotel
Ranked #18 of 22 Hotels in Keswick
Reviewed December 23, 2012

We did a short walk (6 miles) as we had pre-booked a meal for 9 here.

Keswick was quiet do no surprises that The Kings Arms was equally quiet which suited us. We had a corner to ourselves and all very quiet.

Service was a big sluggish but no complaints ... the staff very efficient and helpful. The main meals were very generous and of good quality. The Bread and Butter pudding was extremely nice with a first class custard.

So a good time was had by all.

Called in with a friend for Sunday lunch visiting the Victorian fair, had a good welcome and a very enjoyable meal in the courtyard restauraunt, the service was excellent the staff went out of their way to accommodate our requests, and the atmosphere was very convivial, although do feel it would be an idea to seat families with young children in a separate area, not a problem where we were but felt it could have been. All in all would recommend it as a good place to eat in Keswick, but take note the ladies toilets are up (and down) quite a few stairs so not suitable for anyone challenged mobility wise. Despite being extremely busy on this day, we felt we had first rate attention. The position is great also right in the main Market square.

We stayed as a party of four in two separate rooms for three nights. Our rooms were in opposite ends of the hotel and there were winding corridors between us. Both rooms overlooked the rear so there were no great noise disturbances that other reviewers have mentioned.

The breakfast, served in a sunken area, was nice and filling but the atmosphere was a little bland which was surprising for a quaint old room.

We ate in the hotel's own restaurant one evening and it was decent food but nothing special for what we paid.

The bar area is divided into separate little corners, some of them near an open fire. The whole atmosphere of the bar is much nicer than the restaurant but the price of drinks is dearer than nearby pubs.

We normally camp or stay in B&Bs in Keswick; we stayed in the King's Arms on this occasion as we had Aussies with us who wanted to stay in an old pub.
I think we will stick to B&Bs in future.

Found the Kings Arm Hotel to be a warm friendly place to stay, central for shopping and it is a very good starting position for lots of walks around Keswick. The hotel rooms are very tastefully decorate. (We stayed in room 8) The tariffs are very reasonable. Breakfast was excellent and dinner although not a lot of a choice of main course ( if you we're staying for a week) was very good. Will return to this hotel and recommend it to friends.

Room Tip: Recommend room 8 do here noise from street below if you leave window open but this does not bother u...

Many thanks for your recent review of the Kings Arms.

It's great to hear that you enjoyed your stay.

Did you know that we have other restaurants as part of the Lake District Hotels Group? This means that you can use the restaurants for your evening meals, such as LB's Pizza House or the Skiddaw Hotel's restaurant or conservatory next door, at very little extra cost on top of your pre-paid dinner rate.

Hope this helps for future stays at the Kings Arms.

Many thanks,

Dani

Have been to this hotel 3 times now on their 2 night Booster Break. No complaints at all! The staff are all very friendly, the hotel is very clean and warm - what more could you ask for? The food is excellent - breakfast is served promptly and cooked to your taste. The evening meal (of which one is included in the deal) is also very good - there is a good choice and will suit most people. All in all, I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit Keswick. In fact I already have!

Room Tip: Room 4 has the four poster bed!

We arrived at the kings arms and the service was good. Receptionist was friendly. We got to our room after a long 6 mile walk and wanted to relax in our room for a few hours [4pm] but the noise from the bar was so loud we could hear the conversations in the bar with the TV on! our room number 3 might aswell have been in the bar!! Right next door to the pubs ladies toilets. We let that go and went out for a few hours. We returned back and couldn't get to sleep till 1.10am because people were still in the pub till 1am. We could hear every single word from the pundits below. there is no way we would have stayed there if we knew we would be kept awake till 1 in the morning. we complained in the morning and received no compensation. An apology and we were told we should have told someone. How are you supposed to do this when you have no phone in your room? And she said we should have came down? I'm sorry but I don't think I should have to walk through a full bar at 12am in my pjamas! There should be no rooms at the top of the pub stairs! We wouldn't mind if it cost £30 [the price of a hostel] but £85 is just ridiculous. We booked a supreme deluxe room! No way! Our bed might aswell have been in the middle of the pub floor!! Breakfast was really good the next day. Full Cumbrian was delicious. If you want a good nights sleep stay elsewhere!! Not worth the money!

we wanted to be in town and this hotel is smack in the middle of Keswick and says dog friendly..but i don't think so. The dog was not allowed anywhere in the small hotel till after 9.00p.m. So we couldn't eat or buy a drink in the place. We spent over £200 in other very dog friendly places in the three days and we would have gladly spent money in the hotel if allowed in with the dog. The noise from outside the Hotel kept us awake but they did provide ear plugs...so we should have guessed we were in for it. Please Do not stay here if you have a dog.. don't let them get away with saying its dog friendly.

Room Tip: all rooms as bad...side rooms over a sports/disco bar. Front rooms in the main street, with street...
